Summary
The Emergency Medicine Nurse Practitioner provides advanced nursing care to patients presenting with a wide range of acute, urgent, and emergent medical conditions in the Emergency Department. The NP works collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver efficient, high-quality, patient-centered care.Job Description
Perform comprehensive patient assessments including history, physical examination, and diagnostic testing. Diagnose and treat acute illnesses and injuries such as fractures, infections, cardiac events, respiratory distress, trauma, and other emergent conditions. Order, interpret, and act upon diagnostic tests such as labs, EKGs, imaging studies, and monitor patient progress. Develop and implement treatment plans, including medication prescriptions, procedures, and referrals to specialists as necessary. Provide wound care, suturing, splinting, and other emergency procedures within NP scope of practice. Stabilize patients in critical condition and initiate emergency interventions as appropriate. Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatment plans, follow-up care, and preventive health. Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR). Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain compliance with hospital policies, protocols, and regulatory standards. Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care and disposition decisions (admission, discharge, or transfer). Stay current with emergency medicine best practices and continuing education requirements.Qualifications
Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. If APRN was licensed prior to August 1, 1995, master's degree in nursing is preferred.Prior experience working in Emergency Medicine or acute care settings strongly preferred.
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in each state of practice. Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances in each state of practice. State Controlled Substance License (if required by State) National board certification as an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care (AGACNP-BC) or (ACNPC-AG), Acute Care Adult (ACNP-BC), Additional certifications require approval from a market executive leader: Family (NP-C) or (FNP-BC) Obtains and subsequently maintains required specific competencies and certifications as outlined on privilege form. Privileging documents and related credentialing requirements will supersede this job description in defining minimum qualifications, criteria, and scope of practice, if variation between documents exists.
