Macmahon Surface Mining Australia continues to expand across the East Coast, supporting major open cut operations throughout Queensland and New South Wales, including the exciting recommencement of the Mt Carlton Gold Silver mine.

 

Our Technical Services plays a key role in supporting our people and projects. You’ll work with skilled people wo care about doing things the right way and contributing to our teams’ success. 

 

About the Role

Macmahon is seeking an experienced Planning Engineer to support the restart of operations at the Mt Carlton gold/silver mine as it transitions back into production. Based in the Brisbane office with site travel as required, this role is critical to developing and delivering Life of Mine (LOM) plans, working closely with geology, operations and leadership teams to ensure safe, efficient and sustainable outcomes.

 

Responsibilities  

  • Develop and maintain long-term mine schedules to support strategic planning
  • Design pits, stages and strip sequences aligned to production and cost targets
  • Undertake mine optimisation, scenario analysis and sensitivity modelling
  • Deliver safe, practical and commercially sound mine plans
  • Mentor and support Mine Production Engineers in planning and design principles
  • Collaborate with contractors to align planning with operational execution
  • Liaise with clients on resource requirements and planning priorities
  • Ensure a consistent and sustainable ore supply to the processing plant
  • Partner with site teams to support delivery of budget and production targets
  • Role-model respect, confidentiality and integrity 

 

What You’ll Bring 

  • 5+ years experience in open cut mining (preferably hardrock)  
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Strong capability in mine design, scheduling, cost forecasting and stakeholder communication
  • Proficiency in mine planning software (e.g. Deswik, Vulcan, Spry or similar) 
  • Strong communication and stakeholder skills 
  • Practical problem-solving and attention to detail 
  • Commitment to teamwork and delivery of high-quality outcomes
  • You must be committed to positively contributing to our safe, inclusive and high-performance culture
