
Substation Project Manager - Hyperscale Data Center #DC06
Job Description
Role Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Substation Project Manager to lead and manage the delivery of high-voltage substation works associated with a large-scale hyperscale data center project in Thailand.
The role will act as the Client’s representative for all substation-related activities, overseeing design coordination, construction, testing, and commissioning of medium- and high-voltage systems. The Substation Project Manager will ensure integration with the main data center project and successful delivery aligned with safety, quality, schedule, and cost objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage all substation project activities, ensuring alignment with overall project delivery strategy
- Act as the primary point of contact for substation-related matters, coordinating between client, contractors, utilities, and consultants
- Oversee design review and coordination for substation systems (HV/MV, transformers, switchgear, protection, SCADA)
- Manage and monitor construction activities, ensuring compliance with approved designs, specifications, and regulatory/utility requirements
- Ensure proper coordination and interface between substation works and data center facilities
- Monitor and control project schedule, identifying risks, delays, and interface challenges
- Oversee cost control, variations, and claims related to substation works
- Supervise testing and commissioning activities, including energization and grid synchronization
- Liaise closely with relevant utility authorities and permitting bodies to ensure timely approvals and compliance
- Implement and maintain quality assurance / quality control (QA/QC) and safety standards for all substation works
- Identify and manage project risks, maintaining mitigation and escalation plans
- Oversee documentation, reporting, and technical submissions, ensuring timely review and approvals
- Lead progress meetings, reporting status, risks, and key issues to senior stakeholders
- Support project closeout, including handover documentation, testing records, and certification
Key Competencies & Experience:
- Minimum 10–15 years of experience in power infrastructure or substation project management
- Proven experience managing high-voltage substations
- Strong experience in design, construction, and commissioning of substations and grid connections
- Experience in large-scale infrastructure, industrial, or data center projects is highly preferred
- Solid understanding of utility requirements, grid compliance, and permitting processes
- Experience managing multi-disciplinary teams including electrical, civil, and control systems
- Familiarity with FIDIC contracts and Design–Bid–Build delivery models
- Experience in Thailand or Southeast Asia, with knowledge of local utility authorities and regulations
- Experience with SCADA, protection systems, and control integration is an advantage
