Qualifications:

  1. NC School Psychologist License

  2. Master’s Degree in School Psychology

Reports To:

Executive Director of Exceptional Children

Job Goal:

To enable students to derive the fullest possible educational experience from school by promoting their sense of self and treating any psychological or mental health problems

Performance Responsibilities:

(This may not include all tasks which may be found in this position)

 
  1. Assists in early identification of students’ learning and adjustment problems and in identifying factors in the learning environment that may affect the student and assessing the degree of impact.

  2. Conducts assessments appropriate to the focus of concern and according to prevailing professional standards. The assessments take into consideration the characteristics of the student or group of students, including ethnic, cultural, socioeconomic and handicapping considerations

  3. Integrates data from assessments and develops hypotheses relative to instructional and educational programming and program eligibility and placement

  4. Assists in planning and developing interventions, programs, and/or services based on the identified needs of the student or group of students.

  5. Teachers students how to develop effective learning strategies and personal and social skills

  6.  Counsels students on educational and personal adjustment issues

  7. Evaluates effectiveness of individual and group interventions and modifies interventions based on the data collected

  8.  Demonstrates knowledge of consultation models and processes

  9. Consults with teachers, staff, and parents about ways to facilitate learning and adjustment for individuals or groups of students and on classroom, school, or system need

  10. Helps to coordinate between the school system and other relevant agencies to facilitate services for students and families

  11. Interprets educational policies, programs, and procedures related to psychological services

  12.  Provides information and/or education in the application of learning theory, child development, and other psychological principles to school personnel and families

  13. Plans and implements in-service programs for staff and families

  14. Conducts or assists in conducting formal and informal needs assessments to determine program characteristics and needs

  15. Assists in planning for program evaluations and assists school personnel in analyzing, interpreting, and disseminating the results of program evaluations

  16. Assists in the development of a comprehensive program of services for all students and adheres to established program goals, priorities, and objectives. 

  17. Plans, maintains, and/or participates in a system of accountability for services delivered

  18. Delivers services consistent with the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) and the American Psychological Association (APA) ethical principles and professional standards of practice

  19. Observes federal, state, and local policies and regulations in the delivery of school psychological services.

  20. Works to ensure students’ rights and welfare in the school and community

  21. Engages in continuing professional development by assessing one’s own needs and seeks ways to address needs

  22. Other duties as assigned   

Terms of Employment:

Ten month year; Salary in accordance with adopted salary schedule

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel
