Head of Risk DGIEU
Location: Hybrid working at our office in Wiesbaden.
Contract: Full Time
We have an exciting opportunity for a Head of Risk DGIEU to join our Risk & Compliance team here at Domestic & General.
The role holder will lead and deliver DGIEU’s enterprise risk management framework, ensuring Group methodologies, policies, and approaches are effectively embedded across the business while meeting local regulatory requirements.
They will provide expert, commercially focused risk advice to senior leaders and business stakeholders, covering regulatory requirements and emerging external trends impacting the EU business. In addition, the role will champion strong enterprise risk practices, fostering a culture of integrity, accountability, and regulatory excellence across DGIEU.
Key Responsibilities:
Implement and maintains the DGIEU risk strategy, including defining risk appetite and leads the delivery of the risk appetite framework and the regions RCSA regular refresh in conjunction with the Group Risk team.
Provides a risk advisory partnership service to the business on DGIEU risk management, including the provision of pragmatic and commercially aligned regulatory advice, balancing innovation, and risk.
Promotes a culture of financial discipline, resilience, and forward-looking risk management across DGIEU
Manages the delivery of high-quality Committee papers for the Group Risk Committee, Audit and Risk Committees and DGIEU Boards taking an agile and continuous improvement approach.
Supports the Group Risk Director and Chief Risk Officer with the management of key regulatory and supervisory relationships, including BaFin.
Accountable for the successful delivery of risk management training plans for the DGIEU business.
Drive enterprise risk awareness initiatives, embedding a culture of ethical business conduct and continuous improvement.
Maintain subject matter expertise on relevant regulations and emerging risk themes affecting DGIEU and wider Group operations.
Ensures there is a comprehensive, effective, and efficient financial risk framework, policies and approach in place that supports sustainable growth, business planning, and regulatory compliance.
Working in partnership with Finance, responsible for Solvency II EU risk requirements (SFCR, RSR, ORSA) including the risk contribution to the ORSA, recovery planning, stress and scenario testing, and capital optimisation, ensuring robust challenge to first-line assumptions.
Support ad-hoc risk activities/business initiatives that may arise from time to time.
Acts as the most senior adviser to the CRO, Group Risk Director and executive leadership on risk and resilience, translating technical exposures into commercial decisions as required.
Manage, mentor, and develop a team of risk professionals as required, fostering a collaborative and high-accountability culture, and manage team resourcing, succession planning, and skills development in partnership with HR and Learning & Development functions.
Skills and experience required:
Expert knowledge of regulatory risk and compliance, gained within EU Insurance market.
Risk leadership experience across strategy, risk appetite frameworks, and enterprise risk management (including RCSA)
Deep expertise in Solvency II and European regulation, with the ability to interpret and apply BaFin requirements in a commercial context
Proven ability to partner with senior stakeholders and regulators, acting as a trusted advisor to CRO, Board, and executive leadership
Experience delivering high-quality Board and Committee reporting, translating complex risk into clear, actionable insights
Strong track record in risk management, including capital optimisation, stress testing, ORSA, and recovery planning
Ability to embed risk culture and awareness across the organisation through training and engagement initiatives
Demonstrated leadership capability, including building, mentoring, and developing high-performing teams
Fluent in German and English
Commercially minded, with the ability to balance risk, regulation, and business growth/innovation
Strong governance and control mindset, ensuring robust frameworks, policies, and continuous improvement
