
SAP Integration Consultant ( PO / CPI ) ( 3+ years experience )
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop integration flows (iFlows) on SAP CPI / SAP Integration Suite for SAP-to-SAP and SAP-to-third-party scenarios.
- Implement message mapping, XSLT mapping, Groovy/Java scripts, and content modifier steps within CPI iFlows.
- Build and expose REST and SOAP APIs; consume OData services from SAP S/4HANA and external systems.
- Develop and manage IDoc, RFC, SFTP, JDBC, AS2, and SuccessFactors adapters in CPI.
- Configure API Management (API proxy, policies, rate limiting, security) on SAP BTP API Management.
- Manage integration artifacts: versioning, transport, deployment across DEV / TEST / PROD tenants.
- Perform error handling, message monitoring, alert configuration, and L3 production support for integration flows.
- Work with SAP Event Mesh / Advanced Event Mesh for event-driven integration patterns.
- Collaborate with enterprise architecture teams to define integration standards, reusable patterns, and best practices.
- Produce and maintain integration technical documentation: interface design specifications, data mapping sheets, test cases, and runbooks.
- Support pre-sales and estimation activities: scope definition, effort sizing, and solution architecture for integration workstreams.
Required Technical Skills
SAP CPI / SAP Integration Suite (Core)
- Design and development of iFlows using the full CPI palette: routers, splitters, multicast, aggregators, exception subprocesses.
- Groovy scripting and Java scripting within CPI for custom transformations and dynamic configurations.
- Message mapping (graphical), XSLT 1.0/2.0, and JSON-to-JSON transformations.
- Adapter expertise:
- HTTPS / REST / SOAP / OData adapters
- IDoc, RFC, SFTP, JDBC, AS2, S/4HANA, SuccessFactors, Ariba, Concur adapters
- Mail adapter, AS4 adapter (awareness)
- Security configuration: OAuth 2.0, Basic Auth, certificate-based auth, credential store, secure parameters.
- Error handling strategies: dead-letter queues, retry, idempotent receiver, exception subprocess design.
- CPI tenant administration: package management, monitoring, operations cockpit, alerting.
API Management & BTP
- SAP BTP API Management: API proxy creation, policies (quota, spike arrest, OAuth), developer portal.
- BTP Integration Suite capability configuration and tenant setup.
- SAP BTP subaccount, space, service binding, and destination management.
- Familiarity with SAP BTP Integration Advisor: MIG, MAG, B2B message guidelines.
Integration Architecture & Protocols
- REST / HTTP, SOAP / WSDL, OData V2 & V4, JSON, XML — strong working knowledge.
- EDI / AS2 / IDoc-based B2B integration patterns.
- Event-driven integration: SAP Event Mesh, AMQP, message queuing basics.
- Point-to-point vs. hub-and-spoke vs. API-led integration patterns.
- Data serialization: JSON, XML, CSV, EDIFACT / ANSI X12 awareness.
SAP Functional Context
- Working knowledge of at least two SAP modules to understand business context: SD, MM, FI/CO, HR, PP, or WM/EWM.
- Experience integrating SAP S/4HANA or ECC with third-party SaaS / on-premise systems.
- Familiarity with BAPI, RFC, IDOC structures, and SAP standard APIs (synchronous & asynchronous).
Nice-to-Have / Strong Plus Skills
- SAP Process Orchestration (PO / PI): migration experience from PO to CPI is a significant advantage.
- SAP Event Mesh / Advanced Event Mesh (AEM): topic design, webhook subscriptions, consumer groups.
- SAP Business Accelerator Hub: consuming pre-built integration packages and adapting standard content.
- MuleSoft, Azure Integration Services, Dell Boomi, or similar iPaaS — for hybrid integration scenarios.
- SAP Datasphere or SAP Analytics Cloud integration patterns.
- CI/CD for integration: SAP CPI API-based deploy, Postman/Newman test automation, Jenkins pipelines.
- OpenAPI 3.0 specification authoring; API governance and lifecycle management.
- Cloud-native concepts: Docker, Kubernetes (awareness level sufficient).
- SAP BTP CAP (Cloud Application Programming Model) as an integration middleware.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience with SAP CPI / SAP Integration Suite in project delivery.
- Proven track record of at least 2 end-to-end integration implementation projects (greenfield or migration).
- Experience working in Agile / SAFe delivery environments is preferred.
- Strong communication skills in English; ability to articulate integration designs to both technical and business audiences.
- SAP certification preferred:
- C_CPI_15 — SAP Certified Associate: SAP Integration Suite
- C_BTP_2408 — SAP Certified Associate: SAP BTP (advantage)
