Job Overview

Fairview is looking for a Nursing Station Technician at the M Health Fairview Lakes Medical Center in Wyoming, MN! This position is 56 hours every two weeks, working 8-hour evening shifts, with every other weekend rotation. This role is eligible for benefits such as medical, dental, and more.

Responsibilities:

The Nursing Station Technician position is responsible for assisting with patient care, performing receptionist duties on the station, and maintaining patient care areas.

  • Facilitates room turnover:
  • Readies patient room next patient
  • Procures equipment
  • Properly cares for equipment and takes action for preventive maintenance
  • Transports specimens and blood products
  • Provides patient care:
  • Assists in transfer/positioning and mobility of patients
  • Assists with ADLs and general patient care: includes bed baths, tub baths, showers, setting up patients doing their own bath, brushing teeth/dentures, combing hair, shampooing hair, shaving, dressing patients, changing diapers, measuring and recording I and O, taking/recording vital signs, ambulating patients, transporting patients to tests and procedures, emptying linen and trash, doing hi/lo controls on glucose monitors, weighing patients, turning patients, feeding patients, changing beds, toileting patients, getting patients up in chairs as needed, sitting with confused or agitated patients, reporting to RN any abnormal findings, answering call lights, holding/rocking pediatric patients, assisting with lefts/transfers, packing up patient belongings for discharge or transfer.
  • Takes/records routine vital signs
  • Transports patients using safe patient handling practices, devices and equipment to tests and procedures and out of facility upon discharge.
  • Performs tasks with adaptations or modifications consistent with the patient’s age and developmental ability.
  • Maintains unit supplies:
  • Restocks patient rooms with supplies
  • Makes rounds to ensure patient care supplies are available
  • Coordinates activities of nursing station to support patient care staff:
  • Orders and maintains adequate stock of office supplies.
  • Performs telephone message taking and directs communication in a timely fashion.
  • Effectively uses communication systems for both routine and emergency transactions.
  • Updates patients’ diets as needed.
  • Answers patient intercoms/call light promptly and relays patient requests in a timely manner.
  • Maintains unit information sources such as census sheets in a confidential manner.
  • Interacts with other health care team members, patients and public in a prompt and courteous manner.
  • Maintains order and cleanliness in the nursing station desk and supply areas.
  • Works collaboratively with nurse to coordinate scheduling of tests, lab work and other department procedures.
  • Works collaboratively with all nursing staff team members.
  • Uses time efficiently and actively participates in productivity of department.
  • Manages medical record flow and patient care charts:
  • Maintains medical records for all patients.
  • Prepares medical records with applicable forms.
  • Requests/obtains medical report information as necessary.
  • Processes patient charts including admissions, transfers and discharges.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information by sharing information only with those who need to know.
  • Demonstrates the ability to effectively perform the functions within the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
  • Provides excellent customer service:
  • Addresses patients/visitors in a professional and positive manner.
  • Answers phones promptly and courteously.
  • Protects confidentiality of protected patient information while working in a highly visible environment.
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform multiple, simultaneous tasks in an environment faced with interruptions

Required Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, communication skills, computer proficiency.
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc or Red Cross) Ontrack participants much be able to obtain Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.
  • AND at least one of the following: 
  • Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program.
  • Or 
  • Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting. (Appropriate roles may include, Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician)
  • Or 
  • Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program
  • Or 
  • Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire. This requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech or Nursing Station Attendant position

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a health unit coordinator program or equivalent experience

The posted compensation range corresponds to the minimum and maximum pay rates outlined in your union agreement for the respective job classifications at the time of job posting. An individual's pay rate within this range may be influenced by various factors, including FTE, skills, knowledge, educational background, and qualifying experience as specified in the contract. If your role is eligible for a sign-on bonus, the bonus program that is approved and in place at the time of offer, is what will be honored.
