The successful candidate will manage, lead and motivate the Mechanical Maintenance crew to deliver results in key areas of safety, quality, productivity, housekeeping, asset and human resource objectives and continuous improvement.
- Management of daily Mechanical Maintenance activities to ensure timely completion of maintenance tasks and to control costs (labor and materials)
- Coordinate scheduling of the Mechanical Maintenance crew including vacation scheduling, sick calls, overtime, contractors, etc.
- Work in conjunction with the Maintenance Planner and Operations to prioritize and schedule Mechanical maintenance work (backlog management) in order to support the needs of the business
- Prepare weekly and daily work plans for the crew in conjunction with the Maintenance Planner and Operations. Keep these work plans current at all times so that the department’s activities are visible to Operations
- Ensure that Mechanical maintenance issues are addressed in a timely fashion and that the appropriate follow up has been made if required
- Coordinate and lead the crew to achieve target goals in safety, housekeeping, quality, productivity, cost to manufacture and customer service (other departments). Ensure the crew is adhering to standards, processes and systems established. Develops and maintains skill level to operate at standard and address day to day issues
- Develop a climate which encourages the participation and involvement of all employees to pursue continuous development and continuous improvement. Ensure that employees are aware of expectations and are accountable for performance. Ensure audits are in place and are being followed to sustain continuous improvement initiatives and plans. Measures and communicates key results. Facilitates the identification and resolution to problems
- Works in conjunction with the Maintenance & Engineering Manager to ensure efficient and effective utilization of the machinery, and to identify and implement methods to improve uptime, costs and throughput
- Develop and maintain a favourable employee relations climate within the crew. Develop and mentor technicians to increase capability to achieve higher levels of operational responsibility. Establish and maintain an optimum organization with proper training and motivation. Reviews and communicates crew performance and provides support as needed. Endeavors to build a high level of morale through good human relations
- Support the Department Managers and other site leaders in carrying out long range plans, objectives and activities. Communicate fully with Manager, subordinates and others who need to know (timely, complete, concise, clear, responsive, respectful)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Certificate of Qualification in Mechanical trade (or related experience)
- Minimum of 5-7 years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience and knowledge of mechanical systems and equipment in a manufacturing environment
- Strong leadership skills, people skills and team oriented – engages others effectively in dealing with problems and solutions
- Ability to teach, mentor, coach, develop, delegate and follow-up
- Possesses ability and willingness to help solve problems
- Knowledge of Health and Safety regulations and guidelines
- Proficient in Microsoft (Word/Excel) & Windows applications
- Embraces fast-paced environment and adaptable to competing priorities
