Summary
The Area Manager is responsible for overseeing the installation of flooring and countertop trades on residential construction job sites. This role ensures accurate material tracking, quality workmanship, schedule adherence, and high levels of service to both internal and external customers. The Area Manager operates across multiple builder communities and supports field management teams, builder communication, and jobsite performance.
Essential Functions
Level I – Field Operations Oversight
Oversee installation activities and field operations across all assigned trades and product lines
Ensure construction schedules are followed and milestones are met
Supervise multiple builder communities
Serve as the primary point of contact for builder area managers and site leadership
Level II – Territory and Team Management
Includes all Level I responsibilities, plus:
Manage and lead a team of field managers across a defined territory
Provide onboarding, training, and ongoing support to new and existing field managers
Execute HR responsibilities, including performance feedback and coaching
Level III – Advanced Builder Relations and Problem Solving
Includes all Level II responsibilities, plus:
Maintain strong daily communication with builders and customer representatives
Resolve jobsite production issues, delays, and schedule conflicts
Navigate escalated issues in homeowner-occupied homes
Represent the company in problem-solving discussions with builders and site leadership
Skills and Qualifications
Level I – Entry-Level Management
2+ years of experience in residential construction, preferably flooring
Clean driving record and valid driver’s license
Proficiency in tablets, smartphones, and basic business software
Effective communication skills with builders, crews, and internal teams
Basic math and measurement skills, including square footage and linear calculations
Ability to interpret builder plans, safety procedures, and operational instructions
Strong decision-making, judgment, and adaptability in changing field conditions
Conflict resolution and customer service mindset
Must be dependable, responsive, and team-oriented
Level II – Supervisory Experience
Includes all Level I qualifications, plus:
2–4 years of leadership experience in construction or related field
Demonstrated experience in managing multiple trades: tile, wood, vinyl, carpet, countertops
Strong skills in identifying and solving field production challenges
Ability to support and troubleshoot customer issues in both new and occupied homes
Level III – Senior-Level Management
Includes all Level II qualifications, plus:
4+ years of multi-trade construction experience in a leadership capacity
High-level relationship management skills with builder leadership and site teams
Ability to lead strategic territory operations and resolve complex site issues
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Work is performed at both residential construction sites and branch office locations
Frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, and navigating active job sites
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods (8+ hours)
Occasional lifting, carrying, and use of handheld devices or tools
