Job Description

Under the supervision of the Deputy Superintendent, the Multi-County Juvenile Detention Center is seeking a maintenance manager to oversee the maintenance of the facility and provide supervision to designated employee, overseeing daily duties are met and assigning additional duties as necessary.
  • Troubleshoot, maintain and repair equipment, including boilers, chillers, pumps, motors, and valves
  • Comply with documentation requirements
  • Inventory and order facility, staff and resident supplies, including filling of daily chemicals
  • Respond outside of normal work hours as required
  • Perform basic repair to electrical devices and fixtures
  • Perform basic repair of plumbing, including sinks and toilets
  • Installation and repair of towel and soap dispensers
  • Perform interior and exterior painting of block walls and drywall
  • Perform installation and repairs to sprinkler systems
  • Perform upkeep of facility floors to include stripped, waxed and burnished floors
  • Verify facility cleanliness and condition; Insure high standards are met and maintained
  • Maintains exterior appearance and condition of the facility, including grounds and landscaping upkeep (mulch, trimmed trees, deicing, shoveling, weeding, etc.)
  • Verify operation and maintenance of safety and security systems, including cameras and intercoms
  • Responsible for the key control system
  • Insure infrastructure equipment operation and complete necessary repairs.  Seek outside support/assistance as necessary.
  • Schedule and perform systems inspections.  Initiate a periodic maintenance program, including, but no less than:  Daily temperature checks, maintenance work order logbook and inventory lobby coins; Weekly generator, fire and vehicle inspections; Monthly fire extinguisher.   
  • Complete daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, bi-annual, & annual facility Building & Equipment inspections and record all inspection information into facility logs.
  • Operate and repair emergency power system.  Verify system readiness and monitor fluids and batteries
  • Actively works to reduce operation costs and increase efficiency whenever feasible.
  • In coordination with the Director of Operations schedules and initiates emergency drills
  • Assists in maintaining any vehicles assigned or owned by the facility
  • Operates, maintains and controls tools and equipment
  • Tracks warranties and insures contractor/supplier compliance with warranty coverage
  • Attends training to enhance job performance
  • Responsible for the storage and inventory of flammable, toxic and caustic materials.      
  • Completion of secondary education or equivalent with 5-10 years work experience in building operations, general maintenance, plumbing, electrical, and boiler operations.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Ohio driver’s license
  • Must be able to pass required background check including drug screening, prior to employment.
Knowledge of:  Agency policies and procedures*, security polices and procedures*; emergency response techniques; grounds and building maintenance operations*; safety practices and procedures*, electrical repair practices; boiler operator; centrifugal pump repair practices,  mechanical seal installation, hvac system maintenance, small engine repair techniques, plumbing repair and maintenance practices; water testing techniques. * obtain Ohio pesticide license, *after hire

Skill In:  operating grounds and building maintenance equipment:  motor vehicle maintenance and operation; use of hand and power tools, centrifugal pump repair practices,  mechanical seal installation, hvac system maintenance unarmed self-defense techniques, verbal de-escalation.

May be required to drive in adverse weather conditions, must be able to lift or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds: may be exposed to violent youths or youths under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs; may be exposed to blood or other bodily fluids; may be required to intervene in fights; may be exposed to contagious or communicable diseases.
