Job Description
The Certified Telehealth Specialist works in conjunction with remote technicians and Doctors to perform activities involving (but not limited to) patient care, pre-testing, being a chairside advocate during the remote exam and maintaining the doctor’s appointment schedule in a manner that delivers a professional and pleasurable patient experience. With Telehealth, this role is responsible for conducting pre-testing and specialized testing for tele-optometric exams utilizing Telehealth-related equipment and instruments.
- The Certified Telehealth Specialist (CTS) is a patient advocate. The CTS will guide the patient through the entire Telehealth exam experience, from pre-test, being chairside during the exam and handing the patient off to an optician to purchase materials
- The CTS will complete patient registration by gathering patient information, including Medical History and Ocular Health data
- The CTS will conduct pretesting and explain to the patient each step of the process, which instruments conduct which tests and why they are important
- The CTS must be comfortable engaging the patient in friendly conversation e.g., asking lifestyle questions, to uncover potential needs for eyeglasses and/or contact lenses, or any items the patient would like to make sure are covered by the Doctor
- The CTS will assist the Remote Technician and Remote Doctor when interacting with patients.
- The CTS will partner with the remote Doctor to help make appropriate lens recommendations using the lens and handoff tools
- After the exam, the CTS will escort the patient to the appropriate optician or technician, explaining the recommendations for eyeglasses and/or contact lenses made for the patient
