Job Description:
POSITION OBJECTIVES and RESPONSIBILITIES
Service Responsibilities:
- Ensure support program delivery congruent with the Halifax Centre of Hope’s (HCOH) Mission, Vision and Values.
- Work in accordance with COH policies, procedures and philosophy of practice.
- Complete and maintain records, assessments, daily statistics and files, and ensure confidentiality is protected.
- Compile statistics
- Assist in program and service development to ensure that quality, effective and client-centered programs and services are delivered.
Ministry Unit Coordination:
- Receiving, sorting, and storing food bank donations
- Registering foodbank guests using Link2Feed
- Hosting foodbank clients through our shopping-model food bank
- Assist with the general maintenance, tidiness, and organization of our locations.
- Assisting with different community distribution events such as Back to School Supplies.
- Working directly with clients.
- Working with and potentially directing a team of volunteers.
- Assist with volunteer recruiting for events and activity efforts, as well as all necessary support, resources, and supplies.
- Actively participate in meetings with Director of Community Service, inclusive of PEAC.
- Assist with administrative tasks such as communication with clients through phone and email, creation of promotional materials, and more.
- Perform administrative tasks that support program objectives in collaboration with other staff.
- Other tasks as assigned.

- Demonstrated skill applicable to a client-directed approach and a social justice perspective.
- Demonstrated exceptional level of interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build appropriate and healthy rapport with at-risk and homeless persons.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and using the Internet.
Organization Responsibilities:
- Ability to work within the mandate of The Salvation Army’s Mission Statement.
- To expect to help with occasional “special occasions” after hours: i.e. Feast of Christmas, resident’s Christmas Party, to be supportive to Chapel programs.

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Time commonly spent in office environments in generally agreeable conditions, in service and administration areas of social service centres, or in corps settings
- This position provides direct service to the community and will support people from a diverse range of backgrounds and histories
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- This job requires reaching, bending, and stooping frequently, working in a standing position for periods of time.
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
- A team player;
- Ability to work in a compassionate, respectful, and non-judgmental manner;
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications;
- Ability to enter data and perform statistical analysis efficiently and accurately;
- Criminal Record Check and Cleared with Child Abuse Registry is REQUIRED;
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:
- Display competence in developing and maintaining appropriate client relationships and interagency relations;
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral);
- Experience performing administrative tasks;
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $17.00 to $18.08 with a maximum of $21.69.Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
