MAIN PURPOSE:
To plan and provide cooked nutritious meals for service users on a daily basis ensuring food is fresh and purchased within budget.
MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
To plan and prepare a varied choice of menus, ensuring properly balanced and nutritious meals are provided, taking into account any special dietary requirements and service user preferences
To follow any dietary or food preparation guidelines as provided in service user care plans and guidance by health care professionals
To ensure that the storage, preparation and cooking of all food is carried out using the highest standards of hygiene
To be responsible for catering and cleaning budgetary control and purchasing, alongside service manager
To oversee all stock ordered is of high quality and consistent with planned menus that reflect choice and preference, maintaining stock control
Ensure high standards of food management within current Food Hygiene regulations and policies and procedures
To use electrical and mechanical catering equipment as appropriate
To ensure the maintenance and security of catering equipment notifying your supervisor and appropriate people and agencies regarding repair and replacement as appropriate
To be responsible for the storage and use of cleaning items in accordance with COSHH
Direct and supervise all kitchen staff and ensure they are aware of their responsibilities with regards to Food Hygiene and preparation and Health and Safety requirements
To contribute to other food related functions as required by the service
Establish and maintain professional working relationships with the service users, contributing to the creation of a homely and pleasant living environment for each service user
During the course of your work you will at all times conduct yourself in a professional manner acting as a role model to colleagues and service users contributing to the delivery of quality services. To work as a member of the team, contributing to the team ethos and supporting service users(s) and colleagues appropriately.
You are required to report any enquiries /issues and/or concerns to the line manager providing information to enable them to take appropriate action.
To liaise in a professional manner at all times with service user(s) family members, friends, advocates and other professionals as required at your location.
To ensure that all relevant documentation is completed accurately and effectively in a timely manner.
To work on a rota which may include weekend and bank holiday working
To undertake any other duties as may from time to time be specified by Brainkind, that is within the level and responsibility appropriate to the grade of post
To undertake, any reasonable travelling requirements, in order to fulfil the tasks and responsibilities of the role.
ABOUT YOU:
Food Hygiene Certificate
Experience of catering within a commercial or care setting
Awareness/knowledge of Health and Safety relevant to catering
Awareness/knowledge of COSHH requirements
Awareness/knowledge of moving and handling
Continuously develop professional knowledge and expertise, attending and participating in learning and development events, meetings, conferences, and events (as requested/approved by line management) to ensure up to date knowledge relevant to the role
