
Safety Specialist I
Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Assist in developing and implementing HSE policies and procedures, providing training and guidance to employees as required.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards.
- Provide training and guidance to employees on HSE practices and procedures.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses, and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, and training.
- Support emergency response planning and coordination, including maintaining evacuation plans and rosters.
- Participate in safety committee meetings and other safety-related activities.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local HSE regulations.
- Perform ergonomic evaluations and make recommendations for standard ergonomic peripherals.
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- 0-2 years of experience in a related field.
- Relevant experience can be considered as a substitute for the required educational qualifications. In the absence of a degree, a minimum of 4 years of related experience is required.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local HSE regulations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledgeable with a variety of occupational health & safety standards, EPA, OSHA, and NFPA regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct a job hazard analysis, site audits, and incident root cause analysis.
- Fluency with data capture, data analytics, spreadsheets, and presentation.
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Previous experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Familiarity or credentialed training in one or more safety-related disciplines such as Fall Protection, Laser Safety, Radiation Safety, PIT or MEWP Safety, Lockout/Tagout, NFPA 70E, etc.
- Familiarity with ISO 45001.
- Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry.
- Certifications, including Safety Professional (ASP or CSP) or Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician (OHST).
Essential Functions:
- Ability to conduct safety inspections and audits, which may involve walking, climbing, and standing for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs regularly.
- Ability to work in various environments, including office, manufacturing, and outdoor settings.
- Must be able to work in a team and effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
- Ability to travel as required.
- Proficiency in using computers and software applications related to HSE.
