Position Description & Qualifications
Serco provides supports to the Navy Amphibious Warfare Program Office. The On-Site Representatives (OSRs) at Naval Beach Unit Seven (NBU 7) in Yokose, Japan, provide the maintenance and life cycle sustainment of the Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC). In this role you will serve as the Senior Welder on-site, manufacturing and repairing critical material for the LCAC.
You will be part of a close-knit team of 6 exceptionally talented OSRs, providing direct, critical support to the NBU 7 Commanding Officer and Sailors assigned to the Unit.
This position is contingent upon your ability to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance and successful demonstration of welding abilities via test evaluated by NDT inspectors post-employment.
In this role you will:
- Work on base in Yokose, Japan supporting NBU 7 as Welder in support of Fleet Modernization Program (FMP) availabilities for U.S. Navy Landing Craft.
- Perform welding, cutting, grinding, and fabrication to accomplish repairs in accordance with approved technical documentation, engineering drawings, and established repair procedures.
- Interpret job specifications, drawings, blueprints, shop orders, formal work packages (FWPs) and controlled work packages (CWPs).
- Determining layouts, weld parts, and assemblies according to engineering drawings and specifications.
- Conduct Alteration Equivalent to Repairs (AERs) and Craft Change Documents (CCDs)on various areas of the landing craft.
- Coordinate with the Lead OSR and In-Service Engineering Agents (ISEAs) to resolve technical issues and ensure repairs are completed to required standards.
- Comply with all safety requirements, quality assurance procedures, and environmental regulations.
- Support emergent repair actions and other repair requirements as assigned.
- Accomplish work in confined spaces onboard U.S. Navy Landing Craft.
- Perform additional duties as required.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A High School Diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
- Strong attention to detail in all work performed is required.
- Prior experience performing welding tasks in a shipyard environment is required.
- Must pass weld test administered by Navy NDT Inspector.
- Skilled in standards set forth in NAVSEA 248, NSTM 9074-AQ-GIB-010 in the following processes is required:
- GTAW - CRES 316L Plate - 0.058" - .250" in all positions
- GTAW - ALUM 5456 and 5086 Plate - 0.058" - unlimited in all positions
- GTAW - Inconel 625 Pipe - 0.035" - 0.098" in all positions
- GTAW - ALUM 5052 Pipe - 0.035" - 0.098" in all positions
- OPTIONAL: GMAW - ALUM 5456 - 0.058" - unlimited in vertical, flat, and horizontal positions for fillet welds only.
Additional desired experience and skills:
- An active Secret Security clearance is preferred
