This role is located in Latham, NY (just North of Albany, NY).
Your Role:
Design optimal solutions for a superconducting magnet as part of a sophisticated medical device, applying advanced technical expertise and strategic thinking by interpreting complex engineering requirements. Delivers high-quality results aligned with regulatory and performance standards with minimal supervision.
Diagnoses and resolves complex technical challenges through root cause analysis and experimental process to prevent production disruptions. Apply advanced problem-solving methods.
Develops and oversees comprehensive test plans and validation protocols to ensure design integrity and compliance. Uses rigorous testing and feedback to continuously refine and improve product performance and reliability.
Evaluates and approves vendor-supplied components and technologies, ensuring alignment with quality, performance, and strategic objectives. Builds and maintains strong internal and external partnerships to influence project outcomes and innovation.
Leads continuous improvement by implementing best practices, mentoring junior engineers, and communicating insights to senior stakeholders. Drives process optimization, enhances team capability, and accelerates time-to-market while ensuring adherence to company standards.
You are a fit if:
You have 5+ years of experience in electromagnetic design and analysis for large scale superconducting magnets, electric motors, generators or other electrical machines; this role will not focus on small electronics or antenna design.
You hold a Bachelor's Degree in Electromagnetics or Electrical Engineering, Physics or equivalent as well as demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
You have experience with superconducting magnet design, operation, and component development, including coils, cryogenic systems, and supporting structures using advanced electromagnetic design tools (Opera, ANSYS Maxwell). Knowledge of magnet stability and performance considerations in high-field applications is preferred.
You are experienced in using magnetic materials to shape and optimize magnetic fields and improve system performance. Ability to apply electromagnetic theory to real-world engineering challenges.
You have experience conducting combined electromagnetic and mechanical force/stress analysis for magnet systems and working with engineering tools such as ANSYS, Opera-3D, and CST. Ability or willingness to learn to write your own software using C++, C#, and/or Python.
You demonstrate strong collaboration and adaptability, with the ability to learn new tools and technologies quickly, communicate complex technical concepts clearly, and contribute effectively in cross-functional engineering environments.

How we work together:
We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week. Onsite roles require full-time presence in the company’s facilities. Field roles are most effectively done outside of the company’s main facilities, generally at the customers’ or suppliers’ locations.

Philips Transparency Details:
The pay range for this position in Latham, NY is $99,000 to $158,000.00
The actual base pay offered may vary within the posted ranges depending on multiple factors including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal equity.
In addition, other compensation, such as an annual incentive bonus, sales commission or long-term incentives may be offered.
