Job Summary
The Director of HIM must maintain overall responsibility for the daily operation of the HIM Department including planning, developing and implementing control systems and processes to assure the delivery of efficient and effective HIM services that meet the clinical and business needs of Montefiore. In addition, the Director must implement necessary process change to meet the changing needs of the regulatory environment. Ensure the integrity of the medical record, compliance with changes in reimbursement methodology and meet the needs of the hospital, the physician and the patient. The Director is a key player in protecting patient confidentiality and ensuring the security of the personal health information of the patient.
Job Duties Include:
- Develop goals department metrics and staffing needs
- Provide professional and technical assistance to staff regarding maintenance of medical records and HIM operations
- Provide guidance and direction regarding coding classifications, reimbursement methodologies, payment guidelines and documentation compliance for services
- Oversee revenue cycle initiative projects to provide strategic direction for optimal reimbursement and denial management
- Plan, develop and implement strategies for manual and electronic medical record documentation
- Develop policies and implement procedures to provide access to medical records for patients, insurers and other authorized requesters needing access
Required Background:
- Bachelor's Degree required, in Health Care Administration or Business required. Masters Degree preferred
- Five to seven years of experience in a health care institution, with significant experience in Health Information Management, Patient Accounting or a related function
- Knowledge of State and Federal Regulations regarding Medical Records and Information Management
- Strong leadership skills, written and oral communication skills
- RHIA, RHIT or CHDA certification required
