The person in this role provides comprehensive diagnostic and treatment procedures within the space of the Sleep Lab while under the direction of the Ambulatory Manager and Medical Director. This may involve polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services, patient care and education.

  • Full time: 40 hrs per week
  • Location: Milwaukee Hospital
  • Hours: DAYS (6:30 am - 5:00 pm)
  • Schedule: Monday-Thursday
  • No weekends
  • No holidays


Education:

  • High School graduate or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) required
  • Completion of sleep education program such as ASTEP required


Experience:

  • 1+ years of experience in a polysomnographic technician role required

Licenses and Certifications:

  • RPSGT-Registered Polysomnographic Technician - Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists required
  • BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council required
     

Essential Functions:

  • Understands and satisfies the needs of the neonatal, infant, toddler, pre-school, school-age, adolescent and/or adult patient and families regarding their growth and development process.
  • Evaluates and identifies needs prior to and during testing and initiates appropriate action.
  • Safely initiates, performs and maintains competency in the following areas: Diagnostics such as Polysomnograms, Cardio-pulmonary tracings, and blood draws.
  • Titration and monitoring of positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy.
  • Perform appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals and adjust if necessary.
  • Perform positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting.
  • Explain pre-testing, testing, and post-testing procedures to the patient and family.
  • Downloads, analyzes and records/scores data per AASM and lab standards and contacts on-call physician as needed.
  • Cleans and assembles sleep lab equipment according to protocol. Ensure departmental equipment is maintained according to manufacturers and other regulatory agency specifications and utilizes resources appropriately.
  • Assists with maintaining inventory and supplies within the sleep lab and being fiscally responsible.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Basic computer skills.
  • Analytical skills necessary to resolve complex clinical problems relating to the integration of anatomy and physiology to sleep/wake pathology and patient safety and welfare.
  • Possess adequate time management skills.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills sufficient to interact with interdisciplinary health team members and consumers.
