Job Description

Alignment Health is breaking the mold in conventional health care, committed to serving seniors and those who need it most: the chronically ill and frail. It takes an entire team of passionate and caring people, united in our mission to put the senior first. We have built a team of talented and experienced people who are passionate about transforming the lives of the seniors we serve. In this fast-growing company, you will find ample room for growth and innovation alongside the Alignment Health community. Working at Alignment Health provides an opportunity to do work that really matters, not only changing lives but saving them. Together.

The Chief of Staff, MSO is a high-impact, high-visibility individual contributor who serves as the strategic operating partner to the President of the Managed Services Organization (MSO) — enabling focused, effective, and aligned executive leadership across a complex, matrixed environment. This role sits at the intersection of strategy and execution, owning the operational cadence of the President's office while leading cross-functional initiatives that do not neatly fit within a single department or leadership lane. The Chief of Staff partners closely with the President's direct reports, senior leadership, finance, and ex-ternal stakeholders to ensure that priorities are clear, decisions are informed, and commitments are met. This role is critical to the organization because the MSO's ability to execute on its growth agenda depends on a disciplined operating infrastructure — and the Chief of Staff is the person who builds and maintains that infrastructure on behalf of the President.

Job Responsibilities:

Drive the Operating Rhythm of the MSO Executive Office. Build and lead the daily operational cadence of the President's office — including preparing materials for leadership meetings, board presentations, and executive offsites, and ensuring that the right people have the right information at the right time. Serve as the connective tissue between the President's priorities and the broader MSO leadership team, translating direction into structured, actionable plans.

Lead and Advance Cross-Functional Strategic Initiatives. Own the end-to-end project management and execution of enterprise-wide strategic initiatives — including those that fall between departments, span multiple leadership areas, or require orchestration across functions that no single team owns. Track milestones, manage dependencies, escalate risks, and ensure that action items are followed through to completion without requiring the President to manage every workstream directly.

Serve as the President's Thought Partner and Information Hub. Act as an extension of the President — filtering and prioritizing incoming inquiries, assessing requests for urgency and appropriate routing, and standing in on meetings where the President's presence is needed but their bandwidth is constrained. Provide analysis, recommendations, and options on high-stakes decisions, offering a well-informed, independent perspective that challenges assumptions and surfaces what the President needs to know to act with confidence.

Monitor and Advance Progress Against Organizational Priorities. Proactively track the MSO's highest-priority commitments and initiatives, identifying early warning signs of delays, misalignment, or execution gaps before they escalate. Surface these issues directly to the President with clear context and actionable recommendations — not just updates — so that course corrections can be made quickly and confidently.

Facilitate Cross-Functional Communication and Stakeholder Alignment. Foster integration and collaboration across MSO functions and enterprise stakeholders by creating and maintaining the communication frameworks, meeting structures, and relationship management systems that keep the organization aligned. Ensure that leaders across the MSO are communicating consistently, that decisions made at the executive level are understood and operationalized, and that the culture of the President's office reflects the values and expectations of the organization.

Build and Maintain Strategic Stakeholder Relationships. Own a structured approach to managing the President's key relationships — internal leaders, external partners, vendors, and board-level stakeholders — ensuring that engagement is consistent, timely, and purposeful. Prepare the President for high-stakes interactions by synthesizing relevant context, anticipating questions, and developing briefing materials that enable informed, confident engagement.

Develop and Present Executive-Level Analysis and Communications. Produce high-quality written and visual communications on behalf of the President — including strategic memos, board-level presentations, leadership communications, and analytical reports — with the clarity, precision, and executive presence required at the most senior levels of the organization. Conduct research and data synthesis to support decision-making, translating complex information into clear narratives that drive alignment and action.

  • Other duties and projects not listed above

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This role is an individual contributor with no direct reports or formal supervisory authority. The Chief of Staff exercises significant influence across all levels of the MSO and enterprise — including with the President's direct reports — but does so through relationship, credibility, and the authority delegated by the President, not through formal people management accountability.

Job Requirements:

Experience:

Required:

  • 10+ years of professional experience in management consulting, project management, or high-impact operational roles.
  • 5+ years of experience performing as a chief of staff in executive operations, strategic consulting, business operations or a closely adjacent function — ideally within a healthcare, managed care, or complex services organization
  • Demonstrated experience supporting C-suite or senior executive leaders in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
  • Proven track record of owning and delivering complex, cross-functional initiatives from inception through execution without direct authority
  • Experience developing executive-level communications, presentations, and analytical materials for senior and board-level audiences
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity — able to move quickly, exercise independent judgment, and maintain composure when priorities shift

Preferred:

  • Prior experience in a Medicare Advantage, managed care, MSO, or value-based care organization
  • Background in strategic consulting, business transformation, or healthcare operations at a senior level
  • Experience supporting organizational growth or transformation initiatives across multiple functions or business units

Education:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Healthcare Administration, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered

Preferred:

  • MBA or Master's degree in Healthcare Administration (MHA), Public Health (MPH), or a related graduate field

Training:

Required:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in executive communication tools — including PowerPoint/presentation design, Excel, and collaboration platforms (Teams, Outlook, SharePoint or equivalent)
  • Familiarity with project tracking, OKR frameworks, or similar goal-management methodologies

Preferred:

  • Formal training or certification in project management (PMP or equivalent)
  • Executive communication, facilitation, or leadership development training

Specialized Skills:

Required:

  • Executive Communication and Storytelling (Advanced): Exceptional written and verbal communication skills — including the ability to draft memos, reports, board presentations, and strategic communications on behalf of senior leadership with the precision, tone, and narrative clarity expected at the highest organizational levels.
  • Strategic Analysis and Synthesis (Advanced): Ability to research, analyze, and synthesize large volumes of data, metrics, and organizational information into clear, decision-grade recommendations and executive briefings — including financial analysis and operational performance review.
  • Cross-Functional Project and Initiative Management (Advanced): Demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage multiple high-priority initiatives across functions and leadership domains — with disciplined tracking, proactive risk management, and consistent delivery without the benefit of direct authority.
  • Executive Presence and Stakeholder Influence (Advanced): Comfortable engaging with and influencing leaders at all levels of the organization — including the President's direct reports and external partners — with the credibility, discretion, and judgment required to represent the President's office effectively.
  • Emotional Intelligence and Organizational Navigation (Advanced): Strong relationship-building, conflict awareness, and situational judgment skills — able to read organizational dynamics, manage sensitive information with discretion, and build trust quickly across diverse stakeholders and personalities.
  • PowerPoint and Executive Presentation Design (Advanced): Ability to develop, design, and deliver board-level and executive presentations that communicate complex ideas with clarity, appropriate data, and visual precision — independently and with minimal oversight.
  • Operational Discipline and Systems Thinking (Intermediate to Advanced): Ability to design and maintain the operating systems, meeting rhythms, and communication frameworks that keep a complex executive office functioning efficiently — with an eye toward scalability and continuous improvement.
