The role plays a key part in elevating the university’s voice by integrating storytelling, social media, and visual communications into a cohesive communications strategy.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute short- and long-term social media strategies aligned with institutional goals, brand positioning, and reputation management.
Manage and grow institutional social media channels, including Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, and emerging platforms.
Create and maintain a comprehensive social media content calendar.
Produce and publish engaging social media content, including copy, graphics, photography, short-form video, and multimedia storytelling.
Serve as the university’s primary storyteller by researching, interviewing, and writing news and feature stories that highlight the university’s people, programs, and impact.
Write marketing copy for digital, print, and promotional materials.
Design graphics and visual assets for social media, websites, email marketing, presentations, publications, and campus initiatives.
Capture and edit photography and video content to support university communications and marketing efforts.
Cover campus events and initiatives, producing real-time and feature content for multiple platforms.
Coordinate with team members to ensure cohesive and high-quality content production.
Monitor social media trends, tools, and best practices to continuously improve strategy and execution.
Track, analyze, and report on social media performance; develop KPI dashboards and provide actionable insights.
Provide training and guidance to faculty and staff to support effective social media use across the university.
Manage social media takeovers and community engagement initiatives.
Support crisis communications by sharing timely updates and monitoring social channels.
Ensure all content is accurate, timely, visually engaging, and aligned with institutional messaging and brand standards.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Duties Breakdown
Social media strategy, management, content creation, engagement, and analytics: 50%
Reporting and feature writing 25%
Graphic design, photography, video production, and visual content creation: 25%
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree, and at least one year of marketing, communications, or related experience with social media management.
Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
Excellent project management and organizational abilities.
In-depth knowledge of social media platforms, audiences, and analytics.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage multiple deadlines and respond to time-sensitive needs.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Strong proofreading skills and attention to detail.
Experience with digital content creation.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and other relevant applications used for graphic design, photo editing, and content production.
Desired Qualifications
Experience in higher education or similarly complex organizations.
Knowledge of AP Style.
