Eye Health Landscape Research
Disease Burden, Treatment Trends & Consumer Care Opportunities
Objective
Build a foundational research base on the current eye health landscape — covering disease prevalence, emerging treatment approaches, and next-generation consumer care ingredients — to inform the team’s future product and category planning.
Pillar 1: Eye Disease Landscape
1.1 Epidemiology Overview
- Markets: Globe, CN, US and EU, other regions nice to have
- Identify Top 15 high-prevalence eye conditions
- Data points per condition: definition, how many people affected, crowd characteristics, disease consequences, speed of onset, is it growing or stable, key risk factors
1.2 Unmet Needs — Where Are the Gaps?
- For each condition: can be cured or not? what treatments/prevention methods exist today, what do patients/doctors still struggle with
- What are patients and consumers looking for that isn’t well addressed yet
1.3 What’s New in Treatment
- Emerging approaches gaining attention (e.g., low-dose atropine for myopia control, new dry eye therapies)
- Focus on what the approach is and why it matters, not deep clinical/technical detail
- Which companies or research groups are driving these, and how far along are they
Deliverable: A summary with a one-page overview table per condition (prevalence, current care, gaps, what’s emerging). Sources: published articles (PubMed), WHO/health authority statistics, credible industry summaries
Pillar 2: Consumer Eye Care — Ingredients & Trends
2.1 Next-Generation Ingredients
- What new or trending active ingredients are appearing in consumer eye care products (e.g. otc drugs, supplements) in US,EU and China?
- For each: mechanism behind, what does it claim to do, and is there published research to support it, ingredient source, available market
- Simple rating: strong evidence / some evidence / early-stage only
Deliverable: An ingredient landscape table (ingredient, function, evidence level, where it’s used) + a short trend summary
