Contract Manager Sales / Madrid

About the Role

As a Contract Manager, Sales based in Madrid, you will support Elsevier's sales contracting activity by preparing, reviewing and negotiating sales contracts, amendments, renewals, order forms, terms and conditions and related legal documents. Support of LATAM Sales will be part of the support. You will be part of a One Team approach, working in close collaboration with Sales, Legal, Account Support and Finance to enable compliant commercial outcomes, strong customer experience and operational efficiency.

This role suits someone who is building and demonstrating a strong contracting profile: technically accurate, commercially aware, responsive and confident using Elsevier templates, policies, toolkits and approval routes. You will be expected to identify deviations from approved positions early, assess contractual risks thoughtfully, and bring practical recommendations rather than only escalating questions.

The position is based in our Madrid office.

Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing, drafting and negotiating sales contracts and related documents, including order forms, amendments, renewals and customer terms, in line with Elsevier templates, fallback positions, policies, and approval requirements.
  • Supporting Legal and Sales by identifying non-standard terms, missing protections, approval requirements and other contracting risks clearly and early.
  • Applying sound judgment to routine and moderately complex contracting issues, balancing risk with commercial needs and proposing practical ways forward.
  • Managing contract matters proactively from intake through execution, including tracking status, blockers, approvals and next steps.
  • Working closely with Sales, Legal, Account Support, Finance and other internal SMEs to develop, review and finalize contract requirements.
  • Communicating clearly and professionally with internal and external stakeholders, including providing realistic ETAs, concise advice and customer-friendly explanations.
  • Preparing clean, accurate and internally consistent contract documents that reflect agreed services, commercial terms and approved legal positions.
  • Using contract management systems, internal resources and approved AI or productivity tools responsibly to enhance efficiency, drafting quality and stakeholder experience.
  • Identifying recurring issues, process bottlenecks and opportunities to improve templates, toolkits, standardization and smarter ways of working.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in law or equivalent with 3-5 years of Contract Management, commercial contracting or legal operations experience, preferably in sales contracting, SaaS, licensing, subscription or information services experience.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish; Fluency in Portuguese is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to review agreements systematically against templates, policies and fallback positions.
  • Sound legal and commercial judgment, with the ability to assess issues, make recommendations and escalate with context and proposed solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate contracting issues into clear, action-oriented advice for Sales and other stakeholders.
  • Strong ownership, prioritization and organizational skills in a fast-paced sales environment.
  • Experience with contract lifecycle management tools such as Conga, Luminance or similar platforms is a plus.
