National Director of Program Development
Job Description
At Globus Medical, we move with a sense of urgency to deliver innovations that improve the quality of life of patients with musculoskeletal disorders. Our team is inspired by the needs of these patients, and the surgeons and healthcare providers who treat them. We embrace a culture of exceptional response by partnering with researchers and educators to transform clinical insights into tangible solutions. Our solutions improve the techniques and outcomes of surgery so patients can resume their lives as quickly as possible.
Position Summary:
The National Director of Program Development is an executive leadership role responsible for building, leading, and scaling a high-performing nationwide team of Program Development Managers and field application specialists. This role orchestrates the overarching domestic strategy for the commercial growth, clinical integration, and market expansion of the Excelsius platform and enabling technology portfolios across the United States. Operating at the highest tier of domestic capital sales strategy and corporate leadership, the National Director empowers their team to partner with Area Directors (ADs), Regional Sales Managers (RSMs), and regional clinical units to secure greenfield capital placements, expand accounts, and establish data-driven tracking mechanisms for nationwide system utilization.
This role requires an executive blend of macro-level commercial acumen, personnel leadership, and operational mastery. Beyond managing field execution, the National Director acts as a vital corporate anchor—leading a nationwide division that bridges the gap between corporate biomechanical engineering, surgical intelligence (analytics/data logging), and field sales execution, while systematically safeguarding top-tier technical talent to solidify Globus Medical’s position as the definitive leader in US spine technology.
Core Responsibilities & Strategic Mandates:
1. National Capital Strategy, Pipeline Management & Account Rescue
- Macro Market Penetration: Direct and support a nationwide team to formulate and execute commercial adoption strategies for the Excelsius platform, tracking and managing regional capital sales pipelines to hit corporate greenfield placement targets.
- Data-Driven Account Rehabilitation: Establish corporate frameworks for the team to diagnose and rehabilitate under-utilized or stalled robotic spine accounts domestically. Oversee the tracking of systemic regional issues and direct the deployment of targeted technical updates, specialized workflows, and strategic implant pairing.
- Up-Sell & Configuration Growth: Oversee team initiatives aimed at capturing capital expansion and add-on opportunities (secondary systems) within the existing US install base, standardizing how the team pitches and integrates next-generation hardware and software modules into established institutional accounts.
2. Team Metrics, Growth Tracking & Utilization Analytics
- Utilization Growth Metrics: Architect, implement, and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track robotic system utilization, procedural volume growth, and software adoption across all domestic territories.
- Growth Opportunity Mapping: Utilize data modeling and field intelligence to systematically identify uncaptured greenfield territories, high-potential add-on accounts (secondary opportunities), and competitive vulnerabilities across the United States.
- Executive Reporting: Aggregate regional utilization data and field application metrics into high-level business reviews for executive leadership, tying clinical utilization rates directly to corporate implant and capital revenue pipelines.
- Building Summaries of Site Health: Align regional PDM and implant teams to create trackable metrics in sales opportunities, growth, and hand off plans.
- Track Capital Sales: The focus will be secondary deals with Greenfields still being a part of the role. Both must be tracked and plans followed on how to execute.
3. Program Development Oversight
- Program Deployment: Lead the division responsible for the clinical implementation of surgical initiatives, ensuring the team successfully transforms field-recovered robotic and imaging data into actionable insights for hospital administration and internal R&D teams and great performance of Excelsius platforms.
- Biomechanical Conduit: Direct the strategic alignment between corporate R&D/biomechanical research and active operating environments, managing team efforts to leverage spine knowledge to optimize surgeon technique.
- Feedback Ecosystems: Oversee the national feedback loop for imaging, navigation, and robotic software, ensuring that the team’s field observations directly shape the iterative development of next-generation ecosystems.
4. Field Infrastructure & Operational Synchronization
- National Team Leadership: Direct the recruitment, deployment, ongoing training, and operational excellence of the domestic Program Development team.
- Standardized Training Pathways: Assist with design and enforce scalable, technical training methodologies for the team to deploy across US hospital networks, accelerating consistent platform adoption and expanding clinical case volumes.
- Logistical & Service Alignment: Partner directly with Field Service teams to address hardware issues at diminishing accounts.
5. Key Opinion Leader (KOL) Alliances & National Forums
- Premium Event Architecture: Direct the strategy, logistics, and execution of premier national bio-skills labs, corporate VIP visits, executive panel discussions, and major US clinical society meetings (e.g., NASS, CNS, AANS).
- Executive KOL Alliance Management: Build and leverage high-level relationships with elite domestic spine surgeons, neurosurgical executives, and healthcare administrators, supporting the field team by delivering advanced data presentations and executive technology demonstrations.
6. Talent Stabilization & Cross-Functional Governance
- Systemic Talent Safeguarding: Implement robust retention, mentorship, and career-progression pathways for elite domestic clinical and technical personnel under management, actively neutralizing aggressive competitor poaching.
- Cross-Functional Optimization: Standardize operational collaboration across disparate domestic business units—including Imaging, Navigation, & Robotics (INR), Implant Sales, and Product Development—to build a highly redundant, cohesive domestic field network.
Qualifications & Executive Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Healthcare Administration, or Business required. Master’s degree or MBA preferred.
- Experience: 7+ years of progressive leadership experience in the medical device sector, with a definitive track record of managing people and leading field teams within surgical robotics, computer-assisted navigation, biomechanical research, or complex spine portfolios.
- Analytical Competency: Proven ability to build dashboards, analyze clinical/commercial metrics, track utilization growth, and convert field data into strategic sales plans.
- US Market Mastery: Deep operational knowledge of the United States healthcare landscape, including hospital capital purchasing cycles, GPO/IDN frameworks, FDA-cleared surgical environments, and domestic spine reimbursement models.
- Executive Presence: Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the professional stature required to manage a remote national team and negotiate directly with health system CEOs, hospital executives, and elite domestic KOLs.
- Travel: Willingness to travel extensively across domestic regions to lead team initiatives, support key accounts, and attend corporate labs and national conferences.
