Job Requirements

General Summary Under frequent supervision, performs cleaning, works with patient trayline, and transports food to patient floors.

Reporting Relationships Reports to the Utility Supervisor.


Transportation/Delivery

  • Demonstrates knowledge of food cart distribution, location and pick up.
  • Adheres to hospital policy on trash removal and disposal.
  • Adheres to department policy on House nourishment food distribution and retrieval.
  • Demonstrates knowledge on returning items in their proper place.
  • Adheres to department policy on picking up trays, domes, and bases in nourishment areas.
  • Retrieves trays from various areas within the hospital.
  • Adheres to department policy on nourishment deliveries for Peds, 2A, Endo and PACU.

Sanitation/Cleaning/Safety

  • Adheres to the sanitation standard for food safety and personal hygiene.
  • Adheres to safety rules, regulation and practices.
  • Adheres to procedure for proper set-up and operation of the dish machine.
  • Consistently keeps the work area, equipment, and storage areas clean, neat and organized.
  • Performs cleaning duties according to cleaning schedule.
  • Adheres to chemical safety and their proper use.
  • Operates equipment appropriately.
  • Follows procedures for cleaning equipment.
  • Monitors temperatures on the dish machine. Documents on the sheet.
  • Adheres to the 3 sink set-up in the potroom. Knows to take the sanitation test and documents on sheet.

Patient Meal Service

  • Serves food in an attractive manner, according to the serving guide/menu.
  • Maintains serving areas in a clean and orderly manner..
  • Utilizes appropriate customer relation skills to ensure that all patients are treated with respect and dignity.
  • Delivers call backs to patients.
  • Informs Supervisor of any concerns regarding food .
  • Prepares coffee according to census, following posted sheet.
  • Adheres to department policy on guest trays and their cost.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Shows initiative, independence, resourcefulness and effectiveness in performing own duties.
  • Adheres to the department specific personnel policy and procedures as stated in the employee handbook.
  • Understands patient rights and follows all requirements.
  • Demonstrates effective communication methods and skills, using line of authority appropriately.
  • Maintains a satisfactory record on punctuality.
  • Attends hospital and departmental meetings as required or assigned.
