Overview

The Swiss Account Management team plays a critical role in strengthening Mastercard’s position in the market and deepening relationships with key banking partners across Switzerland. As Director, Issuing Account Management, you will lead strategic client engagement for some of our most important banking relationships, helping shape growth agendas, unlock new business opportunities, and deliver long-term value for both our customers and Mastercard. This is a highly visible role for a commercially minded relationship leader who combines strategic thinking with executional excellence. You will partner closely with customers and internal stakeholders to grow portfolios, advance service offerings, and lead impactful initiatives across the payments landscape.

Key responsibilities include:

• Build, grow, and strengthen strategic partnerships with key banking customers, delivering high-impact solutions, insights, and services that create measurable value
• Develop and execute growth strategies for the Swiss market in close partnership with country management, account teams, and product teams
• Lead strategic client conversations with senior decision-makers to identify, shape, and convert new and emerging opportunities into sustainable revenue growth
• Create and drive account plans with clear objectives, strong client engagement, and measurable KPIs; monitor performance against targets and lead regular business reviews
• Partner with internal teams to craft compelling client presentations, business cases, and value propositions that support strategic growth conversations
• Stay close to market developments, regulatory change, technology trends, and the competitive landscape to identify opportunities for innovation and differentiation
• Champion thought leadership in partnership with the Customer Solutions Center, developing tailored value propositions and impactful proposals for customers
• Own the overall client relationship across strategic initiatives and day-to-day execution, including issue resolution, negotiations, stakeholder reporting, and service expansion
• Manage account P&L with clear business ownership, define strategic priorities, and negotiate new business opportunities within existing commercial frameworks
• Influence and align cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, client-centric solutions for a strategic partner portfolio
• Contribute as an active and collaborative member of the Swiss team, helping build a high-performing and positive team culture

All about you

• Deep interest in payments, banking, financial services, e-commerce, and digital innovation, with a strong understanding of the payments ecosystem and market dynamics
• Proven commercial acumen and sales capability, with the ability to originate opportunities and independently progress them to closure
• Strong track record of managing senior strategic relationships and navigating complex stakeholder environments
• Strong business judgment supported by financial acumen, analytical strength, and negotiation skills
• Demonstrated ability to build and manage sales pipelines that support long-term growth objectives
• Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and adapt messaging to different audiences
• Strong collaborative leadership style, with the ability to align indirect resources, build consensus, and drive outcomes across internal and external stakeholders
• Comfortable operating in ambiguity and able to bring clarity, structure, and momentum when navigating uncertainty
• High self-awareness, openness to new ideas, and a willingness to challenge the status quo in service of stronger partnerships and better outcomes
• Structured, diligent, and resourceful, with curiosity, agility, and creativity in solving business challenges

Experience and qualifications

• Minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate solutions and value propositions to senior stakeholders and customers
• Strong ability to collaborate across functions and deliver results in a highly cross-functional environment
• High self-motivation, the ability to work autonomously, and a strong customer and results orientation
• Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or other postgraduate degree preferred
• Fluency in German and English required; additional languages are a plus
