Job Summary
The City of St. Peters is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable parks worker to contribute to horticulture, arboriculture, and public landscaping efforts across our parks and recreational areas. This position requires knowledge of tree care, plant maintenance, and general groundskeeping. The role involves performing hands-on tasks such as pruning, planting, and operating landscaping equipment to maintain healthy and attractive park areas. This position offers the potential for professional development, including support in pursuing an Arborist Certification. You will play a critical role in maintaining and enhancing the City's green spaces, ensuring their beauty and functionality for the community.
Normal Shift: Monday-Friday; 6:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m. (Summer) / 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. (Winter)
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain landscapes, including shrubs, perennials, flower displays, mulching, and weed control.
- Assist with the City's Memorial Program, holiday decorating, and special projects.
- Assist with Parks projects, including tree installation, pruning, removals, and maintenance.
- Assist with holiday decorating programs and vegetation management efforts.
- Interact with City residents regarding tree health, management, and the Memorial Tree Program.
- Perform routine maintenance of park grounds, landscaping, and public vegetation.
- Operate and maintain vehicles, tools, and equipment required for landscaping and tree care.
- Operate and perform minor maintenance on vehicles up to and including a Class "B" CDL size vehicle with air brakes.
- Assist with snow removal and other seasonal tasks.
- Follow all City safety standards and perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be a US citizen or lawfully authorized alien worker.
- High School graduate or GED certificate
- Once (1) year of relevant experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must have a Class "B" CDL valid in the state of Missouri or obtain within 120 days of employment
- Commercial drivers' instruction permit (CDIP) must be obtained with- in 60 days of employment.
- Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and carry it a reasonable distance and occasionally lift and/or move more than 75 lbs.
