Summary of Primary Functions:
The Certified Crane Operator / Working Industrial Operator is responsible for safely operating cranes to lift, move, position, and reposition loads on construction sites or industrial facilities. This role also requires the employee to actively perform additional industrial duties including rigging, millwright support, material handling, equipment positioning, and general site labor as assigned.
IMPORTANT: This position is a WORKING crane operator role. The employee will typically spend approximately 2 hours per shift operating the crane, with the remaining work time dedicated to other industrial and mechanical duties such as rigging, millwright work, equipment installation support, and general site operations.
This role requires strict adherence to OSHA regulations, site safety plans, and manufacturer guidelines to ensure safe and efficient operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Operate cranes (mobile, tower, overhead, or crawler) to lift and move materials safely.
Conduct pre-operational inspections of equipment, including cables, pulleys, hydraulics, and safety devices.
Interpret load charts and ensure lifts remain within crane capacity limits.
Communicate effectively with riggers and signal persons using standard hand signals or radios.
Ensure proper rigging, load stability, and secure attachment before lifting.
Monitor weather and site conditions (wind, ground stability, visibility).
Maintain safe distances from power lines per OSHA standards.
Follow lift plans, including critical lift procedures when required.
Stop operations immediately if unsafe conditions arise.
Perform basic maintenance and report equipment defects or malfunctions.
Maintain accurate logs of operations, inspections, and maintenance.
Additional Working Industrial Duties
Perform rigging activities in support of crane and installation operations.
Assist millwright crews with equipment installation, alignment, and relocation.
Support machinery moving and industrial construction activities.
Assist with loading, unloading, positioning, and securing equipment and materials.
Utilize hand and power tools safely and effectively.
Maintain housekeeping and organization of work areas.
Perform additional industrial labor duties as assigned by site supervision.
This is not a full-time seated crane operator position. Candidates must be willing and physically able to perform hands-on industrial work for the majority of each shift.

Experience, Qualifications and Key Competencies
Valid crane operator certification (e.g., NCCCO or equivalent OSHA-recognized credential).
High school diploma or equivalent.
Proven experience operating cranes in construction or industrial settings.
Experience with rigging, millwright, or industrial installation work preferred.
Strong knowledge of rigging practices and signaling standards.
Ability to read and interpret load charts and lift plans.
Good physical condition, coordination, and depth perception.
Strong work ethic and willingness to perform both crane operation and manual industrial duties.
Additional Requirements
Ability to sit, stand, bend, kneel, and work physically for extended periods.
Climb ladders and access crane cabs at height.
Lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.
Work in varying weather conditions and industrial environments.
Wear required PPE (hard hat, high-visibility vest, gloves, safety boots, eye protection).
Follow all company and OSHA safety policies.
Participate in toolbox talks and safety meetings.
