Job Description
At RK&K, we are hiring a Transportation Engineer I to join our team in Charlotte, NC. As Transportation Engineer on our highway design team, you will be responsible for the design and analysis of complex transportation design and design-build projects. Projects will include, but not be limited to new roadways, widenings, resurfacings, and multimodal improvements.
Essential Functions
- Perform a wide range of engineering tasks related to roadway and traffic design, including preliminary and final design, studies, analyses, and contract document development
- Develop roadway design solutions for new roadways, roadway widenings, streetscapes, complete streets, trails, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, transit corridors, intersections, interchanges, and roundabouts
- Prepare traffic engineering design plans and documentation for traffic control devices, including traffic signals, signing, pavement markings, temporary traffic control, roadway lighting, and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)
- Support projects for all modes of travel, including highway, bus, rail, bicycle, and pedestrian facilities
- Prepare technical reports, design documentation, cost estimates, specifications, and presentations for clients and stakeholders
- Apply applicable federal, state, and local guidelines, standards, and design criteria to roadway and traffic design efforts
- Collaborate with and, as appropriate, lead multidisciplinary project teams to develop complete, accurate, and cost-effective design recommendations that enhance functionality, safety, and multimodal mobility
- Lead or support design projects to ensure high-quality deliverables are completed on schedule and within budget
- Coordinate with clients, contractors, consultants, community stakeholders, government agencies, and internal project staff
- Contribute in a collaborative, team-oriented environment with a diverse and energetic multi-disciplinary project team
Required Skills and Experience
- Zero (0) + years of experience in roadway design
- Engineer in Training ( E.I.T ) or the ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire
- Practical knowledge of OpenRoads Designer
- Experience working with industry software packages such as MicroStation, InRoads, GeoPak, Civil 3D
- Working knowledge of basic roadway design principals
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related field
