We are seeking a Director of Environmental, Health and Safety to shape EHS strategy, strengthen our culture, and drive meaningful impact across our multi-site manufacturing operations.

Location: Mequon, WI onsite position with travel to our plants across WI and Illinois (2 in Milwaukee, 1 near Green Bay, 1 in Woodstock, IL)

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the multi-year EHS strategy in partnership with business leaders and key stakeholders.
  • Drive safety performance through clear metrics, accountability, coaching, and leadership engagement.
  • Chair the Operations Safety Leadership Team and advise business leaders on safety and environmental performance.
  • Monitor emerging risks, trends, and regulatory changes that may impact operations or business objectives.
  • Oversee environmental compliance, permitting, ISO 14001, audits, reporting systems, and regulatory agency interactions across multiple sites.
  • Lead programs related to air, waste, water, hazardous materials, emergency planning, sustainability, and environmental management systems.
  • Ensure environmental incidents, spills, releases, inspections, and compliance concerns are properly reported, escalated, investigated, and resolved.
  • Review operational changes, facility projects, equipment, construction, demolition, and chemical use for environmental requirements.
  • Partner with risk management, insurance carriers, regulatory agencies, trade groups, and external organizations to support compliance and strengthen Charter’s EHS leadership.
  • Develop, coach, and lead the EHS team while contributing to broader EHS&E goals, metrics, and continuous improvement efforts.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Sciences or Management, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of successful, broad-based progressive safety and environmental experience, with emphasis in regulatory affairs.
  • At least 5 years of management-level experience leading and developing safety and environmental professionals in a multi-site manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence culture, drive change, and advance environmental engagement and safety culture.
  • Practical experience applying and administering environmental regulatory requirements in an industrial setting.
  • Experience interacting with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to interpret and apply OSHA regulations in a practical business environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including influencing, facilitation, relationship-building, and communication across businesses, functions, government agencies, media, and outside vendors.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to frame business issues, analyze options, and clearly articulate a course of action to cross-functional audiences.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 25%.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science, Engineering, Business, or another advanced degree.
  • EMT or First Responder Certification.

The Director of Environmental, Health and Safety will be expected to build constructive relationships across all levels of the business, lead through change, develop motivated and accountable teams, and help create a culture where environmental and safety performance is owned throughout the organization.
