Student Worker – Data Analytics & Operations Support College of Doctoral Studies | Academic Operations

Purpose within the Organization:

The Student Worker position within the College of Doctoral Studies provides hands-on experience in data analytics, database management, and reporting. Students in this role serve as data contributors to key departmental workflows — building dashboards, querying databases, and maintaining data integrity across university systems. This position offers the opportunity to work with real academic datasets, develop professional analytical and technical skills, and gain meaningful exposure to data-driven decision-making in a university environment.

Primary Responsibilities – Data & Analytics:

  • Design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports to support departmental decision-making and performance tracking.
  • Maintain and update departmental data trackers, spreadsheets, and workflow metrics with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Analyze and validate data using Excel and university systems to support operational reporting and quality assurance.
  • Navigate and extract information from CDS platforms (e.g., XRM, CRM, CampusVue, AFADMIN) to support data integrity and verification efforts.
  • Contribute to workflow optimization projects, data quality initiatives, and the development of scalable reporting solutions.
  • Identify trends, anomalies, and insights within academic datasets and present findings clearly to stakeholders.
     

Secondary Responsibilities – Administrative Support & Other Duties:

  • Provide general operational support including email communication, meeting coordination, and document processing as needed.
  • Assist with academic document workflows and contribute to departmental continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate records in university systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
     

Equipment & Systems Used:

  • Power BI (primary reporting tool)
  • Microsoft Office Suite (with emphasis on Excel)
  • University databases and systems (XRM, CRM, CampusVue, AFADMIN)
  • SQL or equivalent database querying tools
  • Laptop, monitor, mouse
     

Qualifications:

  • Experience with Power BI dashboard development and data visualization.
  • Experience querying relational databases (SQL preferred).
  • Strong analytical mindset with excellent attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data cleaning, formulas, and pivot tables.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with faculty, students, and staff.
  • Ability to learn and navigate multiple university systems and workflows.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Must live on campus or within 30 miles of the GCU campus.
  • Must be available to work over the summer.

  • Enrolled at GCU as a full-time student in a Bachelor’s program or Master’s program. 

  • Retain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student.

  • Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University.

You may be subject to termination if you fall below the minimum requirements.
