Job Description

Come join us and help build and scale security across the largest global cloud provider. Amazon Web Services (AWS) customers demand the highest quality and reliability for their services. We continually look for ways to invent and simplify as we scale AWS security alongside a rapidly expanding platform, applying automation and agentic systems to drive complex security problems to resolution.

As a Security Software Development Engineer, you will design and build the services that codify the AWS security bar into automated, agentic evaluation at scale. You will drive operational excellence by creating the processes, architecture, and automation that make security assessment faster, more reliable, and measurable. You will work closely with internal customers across AWS, ensuring their security needs are addressed through systems that evaluate code and infrastructure continuously rather than through manual review.

You will provide critical support for the platform on an on-call rotation, performing research and data analysis to improve both the accuracy of our security signal and the efficiency of our operations. You will be integral to scaling agentic security: building evaluation engines, designing the architecture that handles AWS-scale throughput, and driving quality into the metrics we report so the team focuses on the work that delivers the best return.

Key job responsibilities
What you do. You design entire service pieces or cross-org architecture. You own team-level technical architecture, lead multi-engineer projects with clear delegation, and produce design documents that guide related teams. You make strategic technical decisions considering long-term evolution, not just immediate delivery, and you enable the team through architectural clarity and technical frameworks.

What you deliver.
- Service architecture with documented design decisions and a clear evolution path
- Multi-engineer project leadership with clean technical decomposition
- Design documents that become reference material for related teams
- Technical frameworks with cross-team adoption
- Strategic technical vision that influences the org roadmap

How you work.
- Design solutions under multiple conflicting constraints
- Lead multi-engineer projects (you architect, others implement)
- Produce written artifacts — design docs, API specs — that enable parallel work
- Make strategic technical decisions with long-term impact
- Build consensus across teams on contentious technical topics

Critical behaviors.
- Strategic technical vision — consider long-term evolution, not just immediate delivery.
- Decompose and delegate — break complex systems into components others can build independently.
- Produce design documents — every major decision becomes a design doc others reference.
- Enable team velocity — measure success by the team's capability increase, not personal code volume, by improving the way the team works.
