Assistant Produce Manager
Job Description
The Assistant Produce Manager supports the Produce Manager in overseeing all aspects of the produce department, including merchandising, inventory, product quality, and team leadership. This role ensures fresh, high-quality products are available while delivering an exceptional shopping experience and driving department performance.
Key Responsibilities Department Operations- Assist in managing daily produce department operations
- Ensure displays are fully stocked, rotated, and visually appealing
- Maintain high standards of freshness, quality, and cleanliness
- Monitor and minimize shrink through proper handling and rotation
- Support execution of promotions, seasonal sets, and sales plans
- Ensure proper signage, pricing accuracy, and planogram compliance
- Maintain full, organized, and attractive displays
- Drive sales through product knowledge and presentation
- Assist with ordering and maintaining appropriate inventory levels
- Monitor movement trends and adjust ordering accordingly
- Ensure proper storage and handling of all produce items
- Support inventory counts and audits
- Help train, coach, and support produce associates
- Provide direction to achieve productivity and service goals
- Promote a positive, team-oriented work environment
- Lead the department in the manager’s absence
- Deliver excellent service and assist customers with product selection
- Provide product knowledge and answer customer questions
- Resolve concerns quickly and professionally
- Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation standards
- Maintain proper temperature control and handling procedures
- Follow all company policies and safety guidelines
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous produce or perishable department experience required
- Supervisory experience preferred
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of produce handling and merchandising preferred
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly
- Frequent standing, bending, and reaching
- Ability to work in refrigerated conditions
- Fast-paced retail environment focused on fresh products
- Flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
