UW Medicine’s Office of Medical Staff Affairs has an outstanding opportunity for an Associate Director of Information Systems to join their team.

About this Opportunity

Reporting to the Senior Director of Medical Staff Affairs, the Associate Director of Information Systems leads the technology, data, and systems strategy supporting credentialing and privileging across UW Medicine.

This role oversees staff and related platforms that connect people, processes, and data across UW Medical Centers, Harborview Medical Center, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, UW Medicine Primary Care Clinics, and UW Husky Health. This is an opportunity to shape enterprise-grade information systems that strengthen compliance, improve the user experience, and support high-quality patient care in a mission-driven academic health system.

Key Responsibilities

Technology Strategy & Credentialing Systems Management (50%)

  • Develop and execute a technology strategy for credentialing and privileging systems, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities, compliance requirements, and operational efficiency goals.
  • Partner with University of Washington IT, Dean of Medicine IT, credentialing leaders, and vendors to implement enhancements, upgrades, integrations, and system changes with minimal disruption and strong adoption.
  • Build and maintain reporting tools, SQL queries, Power BI dashboards, system documentation, permissions, configurations, and user support resources that improve data visibility and decision-making.

Projects and Process Improvement Initiatives (20%)

  • Lead high-impact projects that modernize credentialing workflows, improve data governance, automate manual processes, and strengthen reporting and compliance operations.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders, credentialing quality, compliance, training, and external partners to plan, pilot, roll out, and evaluate office-wide improvements.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes and translate business needs into thoughtful system design, training updates, SOPs, and user-friendly tools.

Supervisory Responsibilities (20%)

  • Manage and develop staff, including Credentialing Data and Projects Specialists and data support staff, by setting priorities, aligning work with office goals, providing coaching, and supporting a collaborative team culture.

Compliance, Reporting, and Data Stewardship (5%)

  • Ensure credentialing systems supports compliance and reporting requirements for The Joint Commission (TJC), the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), URAC, the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and the Department of Health (DOH)., and institutional requirements, including timely updates in response to regulatory or policy changes.
  • Partner with credentialing leadership to develop dashboards, audit-ready reports, and data analyses that surface trends, bottlenecks, quality concerns, and compliance gaps.
  • Oversee key data programs and ad hoc reporting needs, including Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE) data feeds and National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB) continuous query re-enrollment processes.

Other Duties as Assigned (5%)            

  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned to support Medical Staff Affairs and UW Medicine priorities.

Required Qualifications

Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Information Management, or related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in information management, or healthcare technology systems in healthcare or in medical staff services or a credentialing setting.

Additional Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of credentialing and privileging regulations and their application within healthcare systems.
  • Proven ability to implement system updates, optimize workflows, and troubleshoot software related challenges.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with process improvements or Lean concepts.
  • Experience with reporting systems such as Microsoft Access Database.
  • In-depth knowledge of the ASM MD-Staff software.
  • Proficiency in credentialing software systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated ability in identifying and resolving problems with software and data management systems.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Compensation, Benefits and Position Details

Pay Range Minimum:

$132,000.00 annual

Pay Range Maximum:

$144,000.00 annual
