Job Description
The Specialist, Software Governance provides independent oversight of RCD software, including COTS solutions, to ensure compliance, quality, and design integrity across ship systems. As the program enters implementation, the role focuses on evaluating supplier software releases, testing and defect management practices, and auditing development environments to support informed decisions related to software safety, security, and governance.
- Conduct independent, risk‑based software assurance activities across the system life cycle.
- Develop and maintain software assurance plans, processes, and tools.
- Assess supplier software engineering practices, including testing and defect management.
- Maintain the software inventory and associated risk assessments.
- Perform independent audits of supplier software practices and support source code reviews as required.
- Collaborate with engineering and program teams to support decisions related to safety, security, and design integrity.
- Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline
- 4–10 years of experience in shipbuilding or a similarly complex industrial environment.
- Experience applying software engineering standards, including IEEE 12207 and IEEE 730.
- Familiarity with ISO/IEC standards, MIL‑STD‑882, NIST SP 800‑218 (SSDF), and SAFECode guidance is an asset.
- Experience assessing supplier software safety or secure development practices is an asset.
Due to the nature of work Irving Shipbuilding does, all successful applicants must meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
Please note this position requires a full-time, in-office presence.
