Respiratory Therapist Job Summary: Provides all modalities of Respiratory Care to all age groups in all areas of the hospital, working with patients, family members, physicians and other hospital staff in a family centered environment.

Respiratory Therapist Essential Accountabilities:
Establish and maintain patient airway in emergent situations to provide adequate ventilation.
Initiate and maintain mechanical and IPPV ventilation for optimal patient outcomes.
Administer inhaled r medications and therapies in accordance to established procedures and protocols to patients.
Evaluate and recommend therapy and protocols to provide best practices for patients.
Obtain, analyze, and evaluate ABG’s from patients and recommend treatment.
Participate in C-section and high-risk deliveries to assess and treat neonates.
Adapt to the constantly changing hospital environment, working both independently and in collaboration with health care team to provide positive patient outcomes.
Responsible for EKG’s, Holter and event monitors, stress testing, and Home Sleep Study testing for patients.
In the absence of the Director of Respiratory Care, the respiratory therapist on duty will assume the director’s duties, including sleep studies.
Respiratory Therapist Department Specific Accountabilities:
Maintain departmental computer keeping charges and therapies accurate and current.
Maintain current State Licensure and BLS.
Recommend current ACLS, PALS, and NRP certifications.
Complete HealthStream online learning yearly.
Other Skills
Clean, check, maintain equipment and order supplies when necessary.
Respiratory Therapist Qualifications:
Education/Licensure/Certifications:
Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program or an associate degree in respiratory care from an accredited institution.
Experience:
Prefer a minimum of 1-2 years’ experience working in a larger institution.
Skills:
Must have good time management skills working under stress often.
Ability to collaborate with physicians, nursing, and other ancillary departments for optimum patient care.
Ventilator management, drawing ABG’s and all modalities of Respiratory Care.
Age Specific Skills:
Provides routine and lifesaving skills to all age groups including neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
Hazardous Working Conditions:
OSHA Category I: May be exposed to blood, body fluids, tissues, and other infectious materials.
Environmental Surroundings:
Potential exposure to airborne diseases. The same as for any individual working in a hospital environment that is dependent on a ceiling ventilation system for in flow and out flow of air. Located indoor area with frequent exposure to mild physical discomfort from dust, fumes, temperature and noise.
Physical Working Conditions:
Moderate physical effort (lift/carry up to 50 lbs). Prolonged extensive or considerable standing/walking. Lift, positions, pushes and/or transfers or moves patients. Pushes/pulls or moves/lifts equipment or supplies. Manual dexterity and mobility. Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching. Perform emergency procedures (i.e. CPR, etc).
