Your Impact:
  • To assist in providing technical support services to Newmont in the daily sharpening of drills bits and rebuilding down-the-hole hammers to prolong life bit and obtain the maximum benefit out of the consumables, in a safe and controlled manner. 
As Part of Our Team, You Will:

Bit Sharpening Assistance Activities 

  • Attend all pre-activity instruction meetings.
  • Communicate with and receive instruction from the Drill Supervisor and follow specified instructions, prior to the execution of activities.
  • Maximise the use of drill bits through sharpening to increase bit life and reduce drill consumable costs.
  • Inspect, separate and segregate all drill bit consumables.
  • Inspect components of the hammer and replace any defective parts.
  • Operating break-out benches to break the hammers for rebuilding purposes.
  • Operate the bit sharpening machine safely and effectively.
  • Provide serial numbers to the Dispatcher for entry into JIGSAW to track bit life.
  • Assess and replace defective internal components of the Down-The-Hole hammer (DTH).
  • Submit requisitions to stores for consumables needed.
  • Provide a report to the Drill Supervisor on the bits sharpened or discarded and hammer internal components replaced.

 
Stakeholder Management and Engagement 

  • Observe bit grinder machinery for indications of unsafe conditions and notify the Drill Supervisor.
  • Maintain communication with Drill Supervisor on all bit sharpening activities and hammer rebuilding. 

 


 Health and Safety Management

  • Follow all safety regulations and procedures.
  • Operate in a safe manner and take steps to prevent wear and tear and/or damage to equipment.
  • Work without risk or harm to others.
  • Inspect work areas and ensure all areas comply with internal Newmont and external regulatory standards.
  • Provide hands-on assistance during bit sharpening activities to fellow colleagues to ensure that safe work practices are followed.
  • Attend daily morning safety meetings.
Your Work Environment
  • Candidates in this talent pool may be considered for roles located in Ahafo North or Ahafo South.
Your Training, Skills & Experience Checklist

Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations): 

  • Senior High School Certificate.

 

Additional Knowledge: 

  • L & D Certificate (on the crane).
  • Drivers’ License. 

 

Experience:

  • Minimum 1 – 5 years’ experience in a mechanical/maintenance repair environment.
  • Prior drill bit sharpening and hammer rebuild (DTH)experience is preferable.
