Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Machinist to join our Tool Room team. This role is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting molds and related equipment to support efficient production operations. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, experience with machining equipment, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate molding presses and assist in opening/closing molds for repair and maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot basic molding process issues related to molds.
  • Assist in setting, pulling, cleaning, and inspecting molds.
  • Perform mold testing (water, air, and electrical) before release from the Tool Room.
  • Wire and check all mold heaters.
  • Monitor mold efficiencies and support continuous improvement efforts.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in Mold Maintenance Files, including work performed, dates, and details.
  • Use proper procedures for mold cleaning, inspection, and maintenance tracking.
  • Apply green-tag status to molds that are production-ready.
  • Assist with training of new team members.
  • Collaborate with other departments (Maintenance, Molding, Printing, Thermoforming, etc.) as needed.
  • Perform routine safety and equipment inspections. Notify supervisors of damaged molds or needed repairs.
  • Maintain a clean and organized Tool Room.
  • Shut down equipment when necessary to prevent harm to personnel or property.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by Tooling leadership.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of a machinist apprenticeship program or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with machining equipment (lathes, mills, grinders, etc.).
  • Knowledge of injection mold components and systems.
  • Proficiency with measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges).
  • Good mathematical, analytical, and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Positive attitude with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Must provide own hand tools.
  • Comfortable working around grease, oil and solvents.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Forklift and crane certification required (or ability to obtain).
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and squat for extended periods.
  • Ability to distinguish between colors.
