Job Description

Role Purpose

Develop, qualify, and sustain wet/dry etching, cleaning, and surface-treatment processes on glass and related substrates to enable safe, high-yield, cost-effective manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support process development and sustaining: Assist in developing, qualifying, and maintaining wet/dry chemical processes for cleaning, etching, surface treatment, coating, and related operations across multiple product platforms. Execute experiments and DOEs; collect data and prepare summaries and presentations. Participate in root-cause investigations and corrective/preventive actions using structured methods (e.g., 5-Why, fishbone, DMAIC) with mentoring.
  • Manufacturing support and continuous improvement: Support troubleshooting of process upsets; perform routine checks, verifications, and calibrations for critical tools and metrology. Assist with capacity expansion activities, equipment trials, and consumables/chemical qualifications.
  • Technology transfer and documentation: Help prepare and maintain SOPs, control plans, PFMEAs/FMEAs, PCPD, training materials, and compliance documents (MSDS/SDS, RoHS/REACH). Support lab-to-pilot and pilot-to-MP transfers; participate in training for receiving sites and operators.
  • Analytics and characterization: Perform basic surface/contamination measurements and coordinate advanced analytics with Materials/Analytical teams (e.g., particles, ions/metals, contact angle, roughness). Use basic statistical tools (JMP/Minitab/Excel; Python a plus) to analyze data and make data-driven recommendations for review.
  • EHS and quality: Follow EHS procedures for chemicals and gases; practice safe handling, labeling, storage, and waste disposal; participate in risk assessments and change control (MOC). Support permits-to-work, incident reporting, and routine safety/5S audits; promote a safety-first and quality-first culture.
  • Collaboration and communication: Work closely with cross-functional partners to implement solutions. Communicate status, risks, and findings clearly; escalate issues appropriately and on time.

Experiences/Education - Required

Education & Experience

  • Desired Degree: BS or MS in Chemistry/ Applied Chemistry/ Chemical Engineering/ Biochemistry/ Material Science
  • 0–3+ years in wet and/or dry chemical processes for etching, cleaning, or surface treatment in R&D, pilot line, or high-volume manufacturing (co-op/internship acceptable for entry level).

Required Skills

  • Wet and dry chemical processing: Develop and sustain etching, cleaning, and surface treatment processes; strong surface science fundamentals and cleanliness control
  • Hands-on orientation: Enjoys factory/lab work in chemical processing, materials characterization (contact angle, profilometry/AFM, SEM/EDS, XPS, ellipsometry), glass finishing manufacturing, and data analytics to drive decisions.
  • Proven support of chemical process capability development and improvement, delivery of solutions, and execution of manufacturing/technology transfer across multiple projects and product lines.
  • Experimentation and improvement: Designs and executes experiments (DOE), analyzes data (SPC, regression, Cp/Cpk), and implements process/equipment improvements; documents changes and supports training and rollout.

Soft Skills

  • Commitment/Initiative; Ownership and accountability for assigned tasks
  • Learning agility and attention to detail in executing process tasks and documenting results
  • Effective communication and strong teamwork; ability to build positive cross-functional relationships
