Overview:
The Mental Health and Addictions Support Worker is a key member of a multidisciplinary team in a co-ed inpatient facility. This role supports clients in recovery through daily structured activities, supportive interactions, and implementation of therapeutic programming. You will be responsible for providing direct client care, supporting daily routines, promoting healthy behaviors, and ensuring the smooth operation of the facility during your shift.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruct patients in essential life skills such as bed-making and cleaning to promote independence.
Lead newcomers’ groups and facilitate therapeutic and community meetings.
Monitor patient attendance in structured activities and provide support as needed.
Assist patients who may struggle to remain engaged in activities including therapeutically challenging clients about maladaptive behaviours.
Provide transportation for patients as required via taxi.
Supervise patient activities in the absence of counseling staff, ensuring compliance with facility procedures.
Ensure the security of both patients and the facility after daily activities conclude.
Be available to support patients experiencing emotional difficulties.
Immediately notify on-call leadership in the event of emergencies.
Record significant occurrences and general observations in patient health record or incident reporting system
Engage in case consultations and treatment coordination with the multi-disciplinary team.
Provide first aid when trained, until medical staff arrive.
Complete housekeeping and clerical tasks as assigned.
Handle telephone inquiries and communications as directed.
Conduct regular rounds to monitor patient well-being and report any concerns.
Ensure all offices and group rooms are secured after business hours.
Participate in administrative tasks such as photocopying as needed
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with completing demands

Collaborate with clinical and support teams to ensure continuity of care.
Ensure timely and accurate shift handovers and documentation.
Required Qualifications:
Diploma or certificate in Addictions, Mental Health, Social Services, or a related field.
Minimum 1-2 years’ experience working in mental health and/or addictions support (preferred).
Valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle (preferred for transportation duties).
Current First Aid/CPR, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI), or equivalent.
Familiarity with trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and recovery models.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Comfortable using electronic systems such as KIPU and ADP.
