Department Overview
The Center for Community Partnerships at the University of Virginia (UVA) advances mutually beneficial partnerships between the University and community organizations, schools, and local leaders. The Center works collaboratively to support educational opportunity, community-engaged learning, public scholarship, and initiatives that strengthen communities across Charlottesville and the surrounding region.
Position Summary
The Center for Community Partnerships at the University of Virginia (UVA) seeks applications for a full-time position of Instructor, Community Education in Charlottesville, VA. The Instructor, Community Education supports community-based educational programming through mentorship, instruction, and partnership development.
Responsibilities
- Train undergraduate students in culturally responsive youth programming, mentoring Master of Public Health students and Global Studies students in capstone projects and working with medical students who provide health education classes.
- Teach through program design, mentorship, and community-based instruction and leadership training.
- Develop and lead programming for women and children, requiring the translation of knowledge into accessible, culturally responsive educational experiences.
- Coordinate volunteers and students, involving ongoing instruction, modeling, feedback, and supervision.
- Work with community partners and participants, requiring teaching across lines of difference, helping students and others learn how to engage ethically and effectively in community-based settings.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Education or a related field.
- A successful background screening is required.
- Licensure/Certifications: None
Physical Demands
This position may require travel to community partner locations and educational program sites. This is primarily a sedentary position involving extensive use of desktop computers and engagement in community-based instructional activities.
Salary Range
Commensurate with education and experience.
Position Type & Work Location

This is a restricted position, which is dependent on grant funding and is contingent upon funding availability.
Work Arrangement: This position is based in Charlottesville, VA, and must be performed fully on-site.
