Principal Business Analyst (Pharmacy)
Job Description
Location: This position is a hybrid role based out of our Canonsburg, PA office. The current expectation is that we are in office two days each week (Tuesday-Wed), with extra additional days as required during the month.

Overview:
The Principal Business Analyst is responsible for defining and driving enterprise-level business analysis strategy, standards, and execution across Customer Delivery. This role leads efforts to analyze, optimize, and transform operational processes associated with client onboarding, implementation, and lifecycle management.
Acting as a strategic partner to Customer Delivery, Product, Engineering, Architecture, and Compliance leadership, the Principal Business Analyst establishes enterprise requirements management standards, shapes the operating model, and ensures scalable, compliant, and high-quality delivery. This role serves as a subject matter expert in Inovalon’s platforms, client delivery models, and healthcare (including pharmacy) ecosystems.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Enterprise Strategy & Governance
Define and implement enterprise Business Analyst strategy, standards, and best practices across Customer Delivery;
Establish governance frameworks, operating models, and implementation standards to ensure consistency and quality across programs;
Oversee enterprise implementation governance, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives, timelines, and client commitments;
Requirements Management & Process Transformation
Establish enterprise standards for requirements management, including documentation, traceability, and backlog governance;
Lead cross-functional efforts to document, analyze, and transform operational processes across onboarding and delivery workflows;
Shape and evolve Customer Delivery operating models to improve scalability, efficiency, and client outcomes;
Solution Design & Technical Partnership
Partner with Product Management and Architecture teams to define enterprise solution designs, including interoperability and integration strategies;
Translate complex business needs into scalable technical and functional solutions, ensuring alignment with platform capabilities;
Provide leadership in defining data, system, and integration requirements across enterprise initiatives;
Testing, UAT & Implementation Readiness
Define enterprise testing strategies, UAT frameworks, and implementation readiness standards;
Lead and oversee UAT planning, execution, defect management, and validation of solutions across multiple programs;
Ensure solutions meet business, technical, and client requirements prior to production release;
Regulatory & Compliance Alignment
Partner with Compliance and Legal teams to align business processes and solutions with regulatory and healthcare requirements;
Ensure all delivery processes and system enhancements adhere to HIPAA and other applicable standards;
Stakeholder & Executive Engagement
Influence and collaborate with executive stakeholders, business leaders, and external partners to shape strategy and drive outcomes;
Act as a trusted advisor across Customer Delivery and enterprise teams on operational and strategic initiatives;
Delivery Leadership & Decision-Making
Provide strategic oversight of delivery initiatives, making key decisions related to implementation, prioritization, and governance;
Balance client needs, operational constraints, and technical considerations to drive optimal outcomes;
People Leadership & Capability Development
Lead the development of Business Analyst maturity across the organization, including frameworks, tools, and best practices;
Mentor, coach, and provide leadership guidance to Business Analysts across programs and teams;
Metrics, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
Define enterprise delivery metrics, KPIs, and reporting frameworks to measure implementation success and operational performance;
Drive continuous improvement initiatives using data-driven insights and performance analysis;
Operational & Organizational Contributions
Support release management activities, including documentation, communications, and knowledge sharing;
Contribute to product and Customer Delivery roadmaps and long-term strategy;
Maintain compliance with all Inovalon policies, procedures, and mission;
Adhere to all confidentiality, security, and HIPAA requirements; and
Fulfill additional responsibilities as required to support operational and financial success.
Job Requirements:
Minimum eight (8) to twelve (12+) years of experience as a Business Analyst or related role, with increasing responsibility in enterprise or strategic initiatives;
Extensive experience in enterprise requirements management, governance frameworks, and operating model design;
Strong background supporting SaaS platforms, client implementations, and Customer Delivery or Client Success organizations;
Experience partnering with architects and technical teams on solution design, integration, and interoperability;
Deep understanding of healthcare ecosystems; pharmacy domain experience strongly preferred;
Proven experience leading enterprise-level UAT, testing strategies, and implementation readiness frameworks;
Strong knowledge of regulatory and compliance considerations within healthcare environments;
Demonstrated ability to influence executive stakeholders and lead cross-functional initiatives;
Knowledge of Agile/SCRUM methodologies;
Advanced process modeling and documentation skills (e.g., Microsoft Visio or similar tools);
Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving capabilities;
Excellent communication and executive-level presentation skills;
Ability to manage multiple enterprise initiatives in a fast-paced environment;
High level of professionalism, integrity, and accountability.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Systems, Healthcare Administration, or related field;
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Sedentary work (i.e., sitting for long periods of time);
Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible force frequently;
Frequent use of computer and repetitive motion;
Work performed in an indoor office environment; and
Travel for this position may include up to 20%.
