Position Description
The STEAM Makerspace Manager oversees the operation and maintenance of the Makerspace, including managing equipment, supplies, scheduling, and staffing to ensure optimal functionality. This role supports teachers and staff in designing and executing project-based learning (PBL) and engineering class projects, while also specifying, procuring, and organizing materials. The Manager leads after-school programs, builds and maintains exhibits of student work, and serves as the primary liaison for technology support and facility maintenance. Additionally, they promote Makerspace and STEAM Trunk programs, maintain accurate records, and foster a safe, inclusive environment for all users. The Makerspace Manager also designs and crafts exhibits of student work.
This position works a 200-day calendar.
Key Functions
- Manages the daily operations of the Makerspace (upper and lower campus) by maintaining the equipment and supplies and scheduling usage and staffing.
- Trains and advises student worker teams and community volunteers.
- Coordinates Makerspace as well as assists in the STEAM Trunk equipment maintenance and calibration and manages the planning and implementation of facilities maintenance in the Makerspace by acting as primary liaison with the technology support infrastructure.
- Participates in the promotion and development of the Makerspace and STEAM Trunks.
- Ensures the Makerspace is properly staffed and that the staffing and use schedules are appropriately posted.
- Furnishes necessary information by maintaining Makerspace statistics (use and interest stats).
- Assists STEAM Support staff in ensuring the return of STEAM Trunks as well as contents from borrowers.
- Provides a safe environment for users.
Qualifications
Required
- Education: Bachelor's Degree (B.A., B.S., B.S.N., etc.) in Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Arts (Sculpture/ 3d Design) or related.
- Previous Work-Related Experience: 1-3 years work-related experience.
- Two years of progressively responsible Maker experience or any equivalent combination of experience, training, and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.
- Use of design software required: TinkerCAD, AutoDesk, Adobe Suite, Meshy AI, OnShape, etc.
Preferred
- Program development experience
- Teaching experience (summer camp, after school programming, or other work with K-12 students).
Physical Requirements

The ability to lift moderately heavy materials and to stand for long periods of time.
