SUMMARY:
The Laboratory Pre-Analytical Manager provides leadership and operational oversight for all pre-analytical and laboratory support services, including accessioning, client services, and pathology support functions. This role is accountable for optimizing workforce performance, developing scalable support resources, and ensuring efficient, standardized workflows across the organization.
The manager directs staffing strategies, recruitment, training, and ongoing performance management to maintain a high-performing team aligned with organizational goals. Responsibility includes driving process improvement initiatives that enhance specimen flow, reduce turnaround times, and improve service quality across clinic and laboratory interfaces.
This role also maintains financial stewardship of support service operations through budget management, cost control, and effective resource allocation, ensuring services are delivered efficiently while supporting enterprise growth. The manager collaborates across departments and with physician stakeholders to ensure operational alignment, regulatory compliance, and a consistently high level of client satisfaction.
PRIMARY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Directly manage the Pre-Analytic teams (Accessioning, Client Services, Pathology Support, etc.), including hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, and performance management
- Oversee all specimen accessioning functions, including receipt, identification, labeling, and data entry of blood and genetic specimens to ensure accuracy and traceability
- Ensure proper timely workflow, chain of custody and specimen integrity from collection through pre-analytical processing via the departmental standard operating procedures (SOPs) for accessioning activities
- Identify and lead initiatives to improve accessioning efficiency, reduce errors, and optimize turnaround times
- Utilize data and reporting to identify trends and drive continuous improvement
- Ensure timely and accurate coordination between laboratory teams and clinic departments
- Maintain adherence to CLIA, CAP, COLA and organizational policies for all support functions
- Monitor quality assurance metrics for the areas of responsibility
- Manage budgets for the support services, monitoring cost efficiency and resource utilization
- Oversee procurement and inventory control for non-testing supplies and equipment
- Perform all necessary functions to effectively and efficiently manage the personnel assigned to him/her.
- Recruit, train, and mentor support staff, ensuring competency and professional growth
- Serve as a liaison for physicians, clinics, and internal teams to resolve service-related issues
- Ensure high levels of client satisfaction through effective communication and problem-solving
- Lead projects to enhance efficiency, reduce turnaround times, and improve service quality
- Additional tasks as needed to support team
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES:
High School diploma required.
Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, laboratory science, or related field preferred
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in laboratory operations or support services management required
Leadership experience preferred
