About This Opportunity
We are seeking a motivated and energetic Veterinary Clinician to join the UQ VETS Small Animal Hospital at the UQ Gatton Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Working within a collaborative, inquisitive and purpose‑driven clinical environment, this role supports the delivery of high‑quality, relationship‑centred veterinary care while contributing to the education and mentoring of the next generation of veterinarians and veterinary technologists.
Reporting to the Lead Primary and Urgent Care Veterinary Clinician, you will provide clinical services primarily to dogs and cats, with exposure to avian exotic patients and hospitalised small ruminants and participate in urgent and emergency cases across afterhours and weekend services.
Key responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
Provide high quality, relationship‑centred clinical care to animal patients and their owners, independently managing both routine and complex veterinary cases.
Participate in the management of primary care, urgent and emergency cases within the Small Animal Hospital.
Actively contribute to clinical teaching, instruction and supervision of undergraduate veterinary science and veterinary technology students, as well as mentoring interns and junior clinicians.
Support continuous improvement initiatives, clinical leadership, and effective day‑to‑day hospital operations in alignment with University and professional standards.
About You
You will bring professional expertise, enthusiasm for teaching, and a collaborative mindset to this role. You will have:
A Bachelor of Veterinary Science or equivalent qualification, registrable in Queensland.
More than four years’ experience in general practice or emergency critical care. Award of membership of ANZCVS or equivalent is preferred but not required. A desire to work towards is encouraged.
Demonstrated commitment to relationship‑centred veterinary care and teamwork across clinical and teaching environments.
Proven ability to manage complex clinical cases and provide mentoring and clinical leadership to junior staff.
Strong commitment to teaching and training veterinary science and veterinary technology students.
Sound knowledge of legislative, professional and workplace health and safety requirements relevant to veterinary practice in Queensland.
Highly developed interpersonal, communication, teamwork and consultation skills, with the ability to represent the School to industry, government and the wider community.
