Job Description
Reports to the site Quality Manager and is responsible for internal and external quality in the assigned area of responsibility (cells, value streams). Focuses on quality of internal products but also supports new product development projects through ownership of project tasks relevant for quality, and management of the project up to series release. Organizes and executes internal process and product audits and drives resulting actions to continuously improve product quality and quality management standards. Tracks and manages supplier quality.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead root cause investigations for customer complaints, RMAs, supplier issues, internal quality concerns, and significant production issues utilizing structured problem-solving methodologies (5 Why, Fishbone, 8D, A3, etc.)
- Develop, implement, and verify corrective and preventive actions to eliminate recurrence of quality issues and improve customer satisfaction
- Serve as the primary Quality contact for assigned value streams and provide direct communication to customers and suppliers regarding quality concerns, corrective actions, containment activities, and resolution status
- Review and analyze scrap, rework, and nonconforming material data to identify trends, prioritize improvement opportunities, and drive scrap reduction initiatives
- Lead and participate in Kaizen events and continuous improvement activities focused on reducing defects, improving process capability, reducing waste, and enhancing operational performance
- Develop and maintain control plans, inspection plans, quality alerts, and standard work instructions to ensure effective process controls are established and sustained
- Coordinate containment activities for customer complaints, supplier nonconformances, and internal quality issues, including working directly with Quality Inspectors and production personnel to implement and verify containment actions
- Facilitate Material Review Board (MRB) activities and support the disposition of nonconforming material through investigation, risk assessment, and corrective action implementation
- Analyze quality performance metrics, including PPM, customer complaints, RMAs, scrap, rework, and supplier performance, and communicate findings to leadership and cross-functional teams
- Support supplier quality improvement efforts through supplier corrective action requests (SCARs), root cause reviews, and verification of corrective action effectiveness
- Conduct process audits, product audits, and layered process audits to verify compliance with established procedures and process controls
- Participate in cross-functional teams with Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, and Customer Service to resolve quality concerns and improve product and process performance
- Generate and report quality KPIs, including customer PPM, internal PPM, scrap, rework, supplier quality performance, and corrective action effectiveness
- Support customer and third-party audits as required and assist with implementation of actions resulting from audit findings
- Assist in qualification and monitoring of suppliers through supplier assessments, performance reviews, and corrective action management
- Prepare and communicate customer responses, 8D reports, corrective action reports, and executive summaries related to quality issues
- Provide quality leadership and technical guidance to inspectors, technicians, and production personnel to ensure customer and quality requirements are consistently met
- Support training initiatives related to quality requirements, inspection methods, defect identification, and problem-solving methodologies
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of Quality Management System objectives and continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications
Education Requirement:
- Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in a Technical discipline; Engineering discipline from a four-year University preferred
Required Experience:
- 3-5 yrs. related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Complex problem solving capability and experience
- Experience in managing technical personnel and complex activities
Desired Experience:
- 3-5 yrs. relevant quality engineering (or closely related) experience
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems and processes
- Demonstrated ability to simplify complex information and prepare executive summaries
- Proven ability to prioritize and communicate workload
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Lean Manufacturing experience required
