Position Specific Description
NextEra Energy Transmission (NEET) is North America’s leading competitive transmission company and part of NextEra Energy, Inc. (NYSE: NEE). NEET develops, finances, constructs, operates, and maintains transmission assets across North America, focusing on building infrastructure to support the evolving energy landscape.
The Senior Manager, Strategy & Strategic Initiatives is responsible for enterprise-wide strategy development, transformational initiative leadership, and commercial pipeline / portfolio management across NEET’s North American footprint. This role partners closely with NEET and NextEra leaders to identify new growth opportunities, shape investment priorities and capital allocation recommendations, and drive disciplined execution of high-impact initiatives from concept to measurable outcomes.
The position is designed to scale: while initially operating as an individual contributor, it offers the opportunity to build and lead a team over time as the strategy and commercial pipeline function matures. The role will also build, leverage and manage AI agents as part of the day-to-day operating model to accelerate research, analysis, synthesis, and reporting. Experience building with and effectively using AI tools is a plus, but not a requirement for the position. Top success traits include strong creative and critical thinking, intellectual curiosity, an innovation mindset, and a strong work ethic with a commitment to excellence.
Key Success Metrics
- Clear, decision-ready enterprise strategy and market perspectives delivered on cadence (and ahead of key investment / planning cycles)
- A well-defined, actively managed commercial pipeline with transparent stage gates, ownership, and up-to-date prioritization aligned to NEET’s growth objectives
- Transformational initiatives executed with measurable impact (e.g., cycle-time reduction, improved capital efficiency, increased win rate, enhanced cross-functional alignment)
- High-confidence recommendations supported by rigorous analysis, sound judgment, and concise executive communication
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise Strategy & Market / Competitive Insights
-
- Lead periodic enterprise strategy refreshes, including market sizing, competitive positioning, and thesis-driven growth narratives for NEET’s North American footprint
- Develop clear perspectives on macro trends (e.g., load growth, reliability, policy, technology, and interconnection dynamics) and implications for transmission investment
- Build decision frameworks and business cases that translate insights into actionable recommendations for leadership
- Partner with Finance and functional leaders to inform capital allocation strategy and long-range planning
Transformational Initiatives & Operating Model Improvement
-
- Identify, scope, and lead cross-functional transformational initiatives that improve how NEET originates, evaluates, and advances opportunities (from ideation through implementation)
- Translate ambiguous problems into structured workplans, hypotheses, and measurable success criteria; drive delivery against timelines and stakeholder expectations
- Design and implement scalable processes, governance, and reporting to increase speed, clarity, and accountability across the commercial lifecycle
- Leverage and manage AI agents to accelerate research, drafting, synthesis, and routine analytics; establish quality controls and human-in-the-loop review to ensure accuracy and business relevance
- Develop change management plans and executive-ready communications to support adoption and sustained performance
Commercial Pipeline & Portfolio Management
-
- Own the end-to-end commercial pipeline view (origination through award / NTP / execution handoff), including stage definitions, gate criteria, and health metrics
- Drive opportunity prioritization and portfolio trade-off discussions by integrating market attractiveness, probability-weighted value, resourcing constraints, and strategic fit
- Partner with Development, Regulatory, Engineering, Finance, and Legal to surface risks, dependencies, and decision points early and keep opportunities moving
- Prepare concise, decision-ready materials for leadership reviews (pipeline reviews, portfolio refreshes, and investment committee-style discussions)
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:
-
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence senior stakeholders without direct authority
- Comfort sharing preliminary analyses, soliciting early input, and iterating quickly based on ambiguous or evolving feedback
- Experience in energy, infrastructure, utilities, or adjacent capital-intensive industries preferred; liner infrastructure and transmission development experience is a strong plus
- Comfort with data-driven analysis and building executive-ready deliverables (models, dashboards, briefs, and narratives)
Leadership Attributes & Core Competencies
-
- Exceptional creative and critical thinking: frames problems well, tests assumptions, and synthesizes insights into clear actions
- Innovation mindset with a bias for improvement: consistently identifies better ways to operate and helps teams adopt them
- Strong business and financial acumen; comfort with portfolio trade-offs and risk/return thinking in capital-intensive environments
- Executive-ready communication: concise writing, clear storytelling, and ability to present complex topics to senior leaders
- Stakeholder management and influence: builds trust across diverse teams and drives alignment without formal authority
- Digital fluency: proficiency with modern analytics and productivity tools; experience building with and using AI (including AI agents) is a plus, not required
