Job Summary
Fraser Health is seeking to fill an Medical Lead, Education - Child & Adolescent Psychiatry position to support regional leadership in maintaining high standards of postgraduate and undergraduate medical education within Child, Youth and Young Adult Mental Health services.
The Education Lead:
- Ensures high-quality training experiences for -
- Psychiatry Residents
- CAP Fellows
- Pediatrics Residents
- Medical Students across Fraser Health sites
- Contributes to the development and implementation of educational programs within the division.
Reporting directly to the Regional Division Head, Child, Youth and Young Adult, the responsibilities of this position include coordination, oversight, and quality assurance of all CAP-related educational rotations within Fraser Health.
Responsibilities
- Schedule R3 Psychiatry residents for their 6-month Child & Adolescent Psychiatry rotation beginning each July and January
- Collect resident lists and communicate with incoming residents regarding psychotherapy schedules, research days, site preferences, driving capacity, and rotation requests
- Communicate with outpatient and inpatient preceptors to determine teaching availability
- Match resident availability with preceptor capacity and finalize rotation schedules
- Distribute schedules to residents and preceptors and manage conflicts or schedule changes
- Support Scheduling of Child Psychiatry Elective Residents
- Schedule UBC Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Fellows for Fraser Health rotations, tailored to their learning goals
- Liaise with the CAP Fellowship Director at BCCH to customize rotations
- Support Fraser Health managers with onboarding for new Fellows
- Coordinate Medical Student rotations in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry
- Field professionalism or proficiency concerns raised by preceptors
- Review concerns, problem-solve with preceptors, and involve the Fraser Associate Program Director when remediation is required
- Organize remediation rotations and assist with learning plans
- Support residents in addressing targeted learning needs
- Address resident concerns about preceptors, liaising with program leadership when needed
- Organize and oversee the Family Therapy curriculum (a core competency)
- Schedule residents for family therapy teaching (primarily group therapy)
- Participate in the development of a renewed Fraser Health Family Therapy Program in collaboration with BCCH
- Recruitment & Engagement
- Identify residents interested in CAP and connect them with the CAP Fellowship Director
- Identify Fellows suitable for Fraser Health roles and connect them with CYYA Medical Directors
- Support and assist clinical teachers in their education mandate and roles
Recruitment will proceed as per the FHA Medical Staff Bylaws.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must:
- Have current licensure with CPSBC and current CMPA coverage
- Have RCPSC certification in Psychiatry, with subspecialty certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
- Be an active medical staff member of the Fraser Health Authority Mental Health and Psychiatry Program
Term: Two years, renewable by the Program Medical Director/Regional Department Head
