Summary
The Pain Management Nurse Practitioner provides advanced nursing care for patients experiencing acute, chronic, or cancer-related pain. The NP evaluates, diagnoses, and manages pain conditions using pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies, working in collaboration with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to improve patient quality of life.Job Description
Conduct detailed patient histories and physical examinations focused on pain assessment. Order and interpret diagnostic tests including imaging, labs, and nerve studies. Develop and implement individualized pain management plans incorporating medications, interventional procedures, physical therapy, and complementary therapies. Manage opioid and non-opioid medication regimens with careful monitoring for efficacy and safety. Perform or assist with interventional pain procedures as appropriate and within scope. Educate patients and families on pain management strategies, medication use, and potential side effects. Monitor and document patient progress, side effects, and treatment adjustments. Coordinate care with primary care providers, specialists, physical therapists, psychologists, and social workers. Participate in pain management program development, quality improvement, and research initiatives. Maintain compliance with regulatory and legal guidelines regarding controlled substances and pain treatment.Qualifications
Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
If APRN was licensed prior to August 1, 1995, master's degree in nursing is preferred.
Experience in pain management, anesthesia, palliative care, or related field preferred
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in each state of practice.
Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances in each state of practice.

- New Grads will be considered
- Position duties- Pain clinic APPs help to see new patients as well as post procedure patients with a team based approach to high quality care. Opportunities to train to perform some injections or pain pump fills.
- Make up of Team: Physicians- 1 & APP’s- 6
- Required FTE - FT 0.8 or above

National board certification as a Family (FNP-BC) or (FNP–C), Adult-Gerontology Primary Care (AGPCNP-BC) or (A-GNP), Adult-Gerontology Acute Care (AGACNP-BC) or ACNPC-AG), Acute Care Adult (ACNP-BC), Adult (ANP-C)
Obtains and subsequently maintains required specific competencies and certifications as outlined on privilege form.
