About the Role
The Atmospheric Corrosion Survey Technician reports to the Supervisor at Bermex. This position plays a key role in inspecting gas meters and associated piping for proper coating and evidence of corrosion. The candidate will also be required to report any other abnormal operating condition (AOC's) found at the gas meter site.. This position also requires a high degree of walking in outdoor environmental conditions, excellent time management, and exceptional flexibility day to day.
***Role receives a per diem of $30 per day for every night you stay out of town and hotel cost coverage.***
What You’ll Do
Inspect Meters:
Inspect gas meters and associated piping for proper coatings and evidence of atmospheric corrosion
Follow strict utility, state and federal guidelines for inspection and reporting of corrosion, gas leaks and other unsafe conditions
Collect data using handheld computer or other collection device
Follow safety, quality and operational procedures
Complete assigned routes and work orders on the assigned date
Inspect meters in various environmental conditions
Inspect gas meters by walking from site to site
Extensively walk and stand for much of the workday
Walk for long distances (occasionally up to 10 miles per day) in various weather conditions (rain, sleet, hail, snow, extreme heat or cold, etc.)
Exert physical force moving objects (routinely 10 lbs of force, up to an occasional 50lbs of force)
Customer & Team Communication:
Refer all consumer complaints to the appropriate authorities
May provide general information about the meter services to customers, when applicable
Use telephones, tablets, and/or computers to communicate
Participate in safety meetings
Provide timely reports and documentation to management per procedures
Show courtesy and professionalism when dealing with customers and other employees
Other duties as assigned.
About You
Must haves:
Education: Education: None. Must be at least 18 years of age
Experience: No experience necessary, employees will be trained. Must possess a valid driver’s license
Nice to haves:
Education: High School Diploma or GED.
Experience: 1 or more years of experience in meter reading, 1 or more years of continuous work experience with the same employer and/or 6 or more months working in an outdoor environment
Your Skills:
Ability to multi-task, and work independently and as a team
Exceptional flexibility in daily routines and route scheduling
Adequate time management skills to finish daily meter reads in a timely manner, figuring out an efficient way to read meters for that day
Excellent communication skills, comfortable interacting with management and customers
Ability to interact with unhappy or negative customers in a professional manner
Excellent attention to detail for problem solving and finding
Ability to walk long distances and prepare for weather conditions, accordingly

Are not flexible and do not enjoy adapting to your current work schedule or routine
Do not have adequate planning and time management skills to finish a days work in a timely manner

Drug/alcohol testing required per Non-Regulatory requirements for employees working with water, electric or meters
Drug/Alcohol testing required per Federal DOT regulations for employees working with gas meters

Where We Work
Employees may begin their day at the local office where they will pick up their company vehicle, equipment, and assignments for the day. Travel will be required during times where inspections are due in other locations.
