Hydro Operations controls a chemical reaction between hydrogen gas, a nickel catalyst and steam heated oil to then gas harden to a specific melt point of IV. Once completed oil is circulated through a press with earth material to remove the nickel and earth material and then directing it to a storage tank for evaluation. The Hydro Operator is responsible for maintaining this process by reading charts/computer systems, taking several samples, and switching valves/controls so the oil/steam/gas is going to the appropriate areas. The Operators are responsible for cleaning the hydro area, replacing press screens and keeping the product moving in an efficient manner as well as sampling and labeling correctly. The performance of the duties outlined below must be carried out within the mission of the Company: to become the preferred supplier of fats oils, shortening flakes, shortening chips, vegetable oil and soybean oil in the Food Industry. In pursuit of this mission, you will endeavor to provide superior product quality and superior customer service at a competitive price. Safety Environmental Performance Identify high-risk safety/productivity issues and help to remedy them. Support full plant wide compliance with safety rules to further our goal of 0 accidents and encouragement of reporting and correcting near misses. Encourage employees to look for ways to improve safety and production processes. Prevention and timely reporting of any environmental issues. Adhere to GMP’s and other work procedures as to assure product quality and consistency to our customers. Prevent injuries by encouraging employees to work safely Work Requirements Take samples from the converters and run either melt points and or RI Multitask between 2-3 different converters Know the correct amount and type of catalyst to use for each product Monitor the stg. tank levels Monitor filtration system closely to produce clean, finished product Add the correct amount of filter medium and take the quality and/or finished sample to the lab for testing Communicate with the powerhouse for raising or lowering the make on the gas plant when needed Follow all GMP’s for maximum quality Check pumps and line settings to ensure that you are coming and going to the correct storage Perform any and all tasks assigned to you by any member of the management team who provided the task that is approved by your supervisor. Manually turn valves/switches on tanks and machines to start and stop oil flow on tanks inside and outside. Monitor flow rates of oil and read charts and computer screens Take samples to lab; Label properly, Record movements in ITS and OIS Use forklift to dump full hoppers; Replace propane tanks on forklift Switch out the filters and unclog any products throughout the building as needed Cost Control Reduce the amount of rework by participating in employee involvement, process improvement and adherence to process guidelines Ensure work is completed to customers specifications Contribute to the effort in controlling costs and minimizing waste in your daily work Working Conditions Indoors and outdoors, Hot and Cold temperatures. Extremely hot oil must be handled carefully. Proper PPE must be worn Working and climbing on tanks, catwalks, ladders, trailers and railcars Using high pressure steam hoses, some torching (Only with approved Hot Work Permit). Working with Hydrogen gas, Nitrogen, Nickel, and earth materials Walking up 3 floors of steps frequently Working around and with high pressure vessels Frequent dumping of 30lb earth bags Desk work for entering data, and monitoring chart recorders and controllers Physical Requirements Some sitting when inputting data Constant walking when setting lines to and from the reactors and storages Constant walking to retrieve Frequent lifting and reaching to set valves, move sample buckets, add earth Frequent bending to change filters, set lines, turn valves Frequent handling to clean filters, and take samples, set valves Constant seeing to observe charts, meters and graphs, tank levels
